It is exactly because of low IQ posters with logic like this that I stopped posting on this forum. And these are posters who have been on here for donkeys years.

Modi stadium fundamentally can handle large amount of corporates. People say india won the 2011 wc on atmosphere around 10k of the 33k were corporate seats. Its just that the stadium is small it feels as if there is huge atmosphere. Apart from the north stand it was pretty docile.

 

Keep in mind the north stand also booed tendulkar. So they are far from standing behind the team.

Compared to DY patil Wankhede is a shithole. People still play at Wankhede as the elites find it convenient.

 

 

Srini mama has no relevance to Chepauk or DMK. He has never been identified as a politically backed authority. He has strong backing of BJP if anything during his tenure.

I see a lot of lame excuses for this lame ass stadium. Let them host matches between minnows. One or two match here and there in the iPL. Not all the match need to be hosted by this stadium. Atleast build a stadium big enough in parts where there are cricketing culture.  It is not just this targeting 2025-2030 they are adding 10 more stadiums to Ahmedabad. Basically there is disproportionate amount of focus on one state when it comes to sports infrastructure development. Ironically a state where there is no real sporting culture. No surprise people are calling it out. All legitimate points.

All stands are open, this issue was resolved 3-4 years back.

yeah but they were closed close to a decade. I remember IPL finals played at chennai with closed stands. Eventually, once Srini was toppled, they moved it out. It has been a troubled venue in recent times no matter how intelligent the fans are.

 

The iconic stadium of Mumbai is Brabourne. Wankhede is a recent addition. Even the BKC stadium has better facilities than Wankhede. Keep in mind DY Patil has been used for women's cricket and remains the best stadium in the pan-Mumbai metro area. Wankhede is a shithole. I have been to both.

 

Dharmashala is a recent addition to the cricketing network and has had issues with its outfield.

I am confused. Are we saying that historic cricketing centres should be given priority or not? Where does Dharmashala come into it?

And they were punished for it. Chennai hosted low profile games in 2011 WC, didn't get a single game in 2016 WT20.

Brabourne hosted till early 70s, then one match in 2009. Clearly the shift happened more than half a century ago.

Dharamsala has the best pitch, best scenery, amazing atmosphere, favorite for players and fans alike. 5000 Eng tourists turned up in the 2024 test, crowd was buzzing for a dead rubber test match. Anyway, where is it getting games? No IPL game for more than a decade, 1 test in 2017, then 2024, nothing in this tournament.

They did host an India game in the group stage. Even hosted other good games like England vs SA. Hardly low profile.

 

Brabourne hosted an ODIs in 2018. BCCI can clearly host events here but crucially dont want to do so as their delegate count would be reduced given that Brabourne has its own delegate to cater to.

Dharmashala has logistic issues. During the 2016 ICC tournament, there were major issues with the airport. This has not been resolved. Are we also saying that scenery should define how host grounds are selected? Even Motera on which the current stadium is built, has a long-standing legacy. Just to understand, you want Eden to host based on legacy (which it is with semis etc potentially). You want Dharmashala to host based on scenery?

I've been a regular of the Wankhede over the last decade and a half, mainly during the IPL. Have visited the DY Patil too, for a few games and concerts.

Let me just say that there is no comparison. DY Patil is poorly maintained, a logistical nightmare to get to and to navigate your car out of post the game.

The 'New' Wankhede which was remade for the 2011 WC is a far better stadium. In terms of seating, entry and egress. More over its right next to the sea and there is a good breeze always. 

 

Wankhede is also, you know, in Mumbai. And not an annexure.

 

Chepauk is somewhere in between DY Patil and Wankhede. Its lively with a lot of chanting ( for CSK duing the IPL). Fortunately I can't understand any coz its in Tamil. But the point is that people have a good time.

 

Eden is the least fan friendly stadium. It is dirty. Seating is slabs of concrete in a lot of areas. 

 

Of all the four I've mentioned, DY Patil is the least lively.

 

Edit: CCI is a great club for socializing, but Brabourne is a really bad stadium. All the seats are concrete slabs. And they can't handle parking.

Ahmedabad is a good stadium. I went there to attend a Coldplay concert. Was a memorable experience.

 

Ahmedabad as a city however is quite boring. If anything, apart from comfort and convenience for business travel/GIFT city, there isn't anything for the casual traveler.

I want a proper venue rotation policy, where one venue doesn't get to host disproportionately high numbers of big games.
