Suhaan Posted March 20 Posted March 20 The quest for 400 Test wickets is the final frontier for Jasprit Bumrah, a milestone that would mathematically validate what the cricketing world already knows,he is a once in a generation bowler As of March 2026, Bumrah has amassed 234 wickets in 52 Tests, maintaining a staggering average of 19.79. While 400 seems distant for a fast bowler with his unique, high-impact action, the path is entirely possible if he continues to be managed as a strategic asset. At 32, he is currently at the peak of his powers, recently helping India to another T20 World Cup title To reach the 400 mark, Bumrah needs approximately 166 more wickets. Given his current strike rate, this would require roughly 35 to 40 more Test matches BCCI has already signaled a shift, prioritizing Tests and ODIs for him ahead of the 2027 World Cup, which preserves his explosive bursts for the longest format Vk1 1

He is already 32, by March 2028 when he'll be 34 he would have either crossed or very close to 300. Post 300 Test wkts, how long he'll continue will depend largely on his Workload in other formats. Assuming he retires from ODI's after 2027 ODI WC and only plays tests, t20 and IPL...he would be able to play till 2029 (35-36) if he remains fit. His wkt tally would be around 320-330. Yes 300-350 is realistic goal. 400 will be awesome. Pacers rarely pick 10 wicket hauls like spinners do. singhvivek141 and Suhaan 2

Not impossible though,he has picked 4.5 wickets/test till now Even if he goes for 3/test from here,it will take him 40-60 games to reach the 400 tally Can be done,as I have said he's a rare breed, people need to him give him that leverage, compensate him with anything but let him target next 60 games without playing useless Odis New guy and Vk1 1 1
bsriharsha Posted March 20 Posted March 20 No. Will be nice if he touched 350 though. 400 might be beyond him considering his age , fitness related issues , bowling action etc.
bsriharsha Posted March 20 Posted March 20 Schedule him a 4 test match series against windows and you never know.
vvvslaxman Posted March 20 Posted March 20 Don't want him.to limp towards 400. Be like a tiger as long as you play. At the sign of him becoming average he should call it quits cricspirit, singhvivek141, Tillu and 1 other 1 3

He has won 2 away series in Aus and would've won in Eng and SA as well if not for our batters.
Suhaan Posted March 21 Author Posted March 21 People need to treat the best bowler the way treat/treated the best batters of this country, infact he's much more than even the greatest batsman He can certainly play 100+ tests which is roughly 50 more tests singhvivek141 and New guy 2

Collectively, Indian pacers are now faster and more skillful than they used to be earlier. BCCI and selectors at times are still stuck in their old age philosophy of playing the trundlers. But the avg pace of Indian bowlers are quicker now and we've started to see many fast bowlers with an ability to bowl yorkers at will. Manucrick and Suhaan 2
bsriharsha Posted March 21 Posted March 21 Like how the rise of Kapil Dev led to the rise of Srinath whose rise led to the rise of Zak.... And then ishant , shami , bumrah... Bumrah's influence on the game will be felt 3-4 years after he retires when you'll have the youngsters he influenced come through. singhvivek141, Suhaan and Manucrick 3
lemsip Posted March 22 Posted March 22 400 wickets is a largely irrelevant statistic. Bumrah is unique that is operating consistently in 3 different formats and bowlers from previous generations never had to shoulder that workload. Micheal Holding didn't get to 250 wickets but he is still remembered 40 years later and I think Bumrah's legacy will be similar. In addition, India actually don't play that many tests these days and a 32 year old Bumrah can only realistically play a maximum of 2 or 3 tests per series. He's not getting younger so like all quick bowlers he will need to start managing his workload even more than he has been. singhvivek141 and BacktoCricaddict 2
Pakistan Posted March 23 Posted March 23 Only Kapil Paa Jee way great player in prime but overstayed his expiration date to break hadlee record of most test wickets. 300+ will be good for Bumrah.
