Austin 3:!6 Posted May 9 Posted May 9 With IPL 2026 now beyond its halfway point, fans complain of match overload, flat pitches favoring batsmen, and predictable high-scoring games that sap the thrill. TV viewership dropped 26% to an average of 3.71 rating, though digital platforms reached over a billion and stadiums stay full. Sunrisers Hyderabad lead with 14 points from 11 games, as playoffs approach with Qualifier 1 on May 26 in Dharamshala and the final on May 31 in Ahmedabad—fans hope for a revival.

Austin 3:!6 Posted May 9 Author Posted May 9 I think to start - go back to 8 teams and reduce the size of the tournament. Also, remove impact player rule. Make it more bat and ball contest. Mariyam 1

Popular Post express bowling Posted May 9 Popular Post Posted May 9 (edited) There should be different kinds of pitches and conditions. That way matches won't feel the same. .... Some flat pitches with smaller boundaries. .... Some seaming green tops with larger boundaries. .... Some pitches which provide grip. .... Some bouncy pitches with normal sized boundaries. .... I want to see Vaibhav, Abhishek, Sanju, Kishan, Priyansh, Seifert, Connolly etc. blast in some matches. .... I want Tilak, Rinku, David, Mukul, Miller etc. rescuing in some matches. .... I want Ashok, Tyagi, Mayank, Nortje bowl flat out express in most matches. ... I want Bumrah, ShamI, Prasidh, Rababa, Archer, Cummins, Starc combine pace with skills in some matches. .... I want Kuldeep, Varun, Rashid hold sway in some matches. Variety is the key. Promote an exciting brand of cricket with fight between high quality batters and bowlers. Mediocre batsmen hitting innocuous bowlers is horrible to watch. Edited May 9 by express bowling cricspirit, Suhaan, nevada and 7 others 1 5 4
BacktoCricaddict Posted May 9 Posted May 9 Too damn long. No more than 50 round-robin matches. Extend the playoffs to best-of-3 series, so the best teams are playing one another more with more at stake at the end. Lord, Austin 3:!6 and Mariyam 1 2
singhvivek141 Posted May 9 Posted May 9 Keep 2 matches on the weekends Saturday afternoons people have to spend in malls, the moment you go there you can't come home by 7 PM to watch the match. Better half will insist to have dinner outside, by the time you're back, match is halfway gone. Atleast with 2 matches, you can stay at home and order food from Zomato/Swiggy Mariyam, nevada and Manucrick 2 1
Tillu Posted May 9 Posted May 9 With T20 world cup happening every alternate year, this is bound to happen. Especially if the World Cup happens just before IPL it will affect the IPL ratings. Mariyam, Austin 3:!6 and Vk1 1 2
MK55 Posted May 9 Posted May 9 These guys should focus more on introducing upcoming talent than obsessing over results. Very few people actually give a F about results. Focus on hyping new talent / generate excitement. BCCI can also help with this from the social media side. They should also focus on improving the balance of the game. Only uneducated clowns will generalize 220 plus scores as entertainment. Start awarding points / rewards that impact game result (in match or overall) for certain statistics. For example fastest average speed / fastest deliveries / longest six / most runs in powerplay / most dot balls etc. Introduce rules that help bowlers specifically. Be bold. For example no bouncer restriction. A ground needs to have certain minimum dimensions - no exceptions. Else start deducting runs from sixes based on distance covered by the six. And yes get money / legalized betting involved. nevada and Mariyam 2

vvvslaxman Posted May 9 Posted May 9 More than the results, it is the fatigure right after world T20. I don't think many players are delivering optimally. They are just goign through motions. Look at Jansen, Bumrah. They are trying to make it 94 matches. If you listen to Buttler podcast you can understand how much they go through. Although franchisee helps them with taking their mind of cricket it is still a tedious tournament where they have to play, travel, practice, do ad shoots. 14 matches. You have to stay fit without niggles. From a fans perspective they are also drained with so much T20 cricket in one way or other. Also with teams trying to put together a winning combination afer mega auction we see a lot of teams under-performing. BacktoCricaddict, Tillu, Austin 3:!6 and 3 others 1 5
cricspirit Posted May 9 Posted May 9 Another option is to hold IPL every Alternate year. World T20 one year and IPL next.

Just shorten it. Each team should play only 10 round-robin matches max. Invest more time in the playoffs. Best of 3, home and away. 3rd match not needed in case of sweep.

I believe one reason to cut down on matches is pitches getting slower and lower ,which makes matches dull Maintaining freshness this long is also expensive, they need to make it finish in 50 days Edited May 9 by Suhaan BacktoCricaddict, express bowling and singhvivek141 3
