r/IndianCricket - Sanjay Manjrekar disappointed Bumrah didn't take captaincy and preferred playing Asian games over white ball bilateral series

What a bitter troll this loser is, and a lunatic.

So he has a problem that Bumrah is playing Asian Games. Doesn't this fool realize that Asian Games is a mock drill for our LA 28 probables, making them face situations which they wouldn't in normal bilaterals and ICC/ACC events (eg. games village, substandard playing conditions)? For once, BCCI is doing long term planning and taking prep seriously. Also Olympic gold for a country like India is important, we aren't exactly overflowing with medals in our coffers, in total we have won 41 medals since 1900, only 10 golds, 8 of which were won in hockey.

And Bumrah still makes himself available for most of our important tests and multi-nation tournaments. Look at how Rabada and the Aussie trio are missing so many matches of late. Aussie trio even missed CT and 2 of them missed large part of T20 WC and Ashes. They are playing their B, C bowling atacks in Pak and BD bilaterals now, heck even their batsmen like Head, Mitchell Marsh are being rested.

Manjrekar is wrong but not entirely. Bumrah should travel with the team even if he only plays some of the games. Use him like they use pitchers in Baseball. By design - you have rest games.

Manju is confused about how Bumrah's career is progressing.

Bumrah was POTM in the T20 WC final, would have won POTT if not for Samson producing the greatest ever batting performance in the history of this tournament.

And he is still #1 ranked test bowler. 12 months back he was above 900 pts, a mark that has been breached by only one other Indian in all our years as a test nation. In fact Bumrah peaked at 908 points last year, very few modern era players have gone above that !!!!

This useless nepo product, and Mumbai lobby pick is publicly questioning Bumrah's career, credentials and integrity now.

Manju isnt hated enough

People here sided with him when he attacked Jadeja but has a history of attacking Pollard, Sania Mirza etc too

Yeah he dragged Sania for no reason, had to take a potshot at her career because of her lack of big titles in singles. As if other Indian tennis players have made great waves in singles, at least Sania cracked top 30, reached second week in USO once, crossed swords with legends like Serena and Sharapova on the biggest stages. For an Indian woman, that is a great career, because she was a trendsetter.

And slamming Jaddu the test player, I am sure this idiot goes gaga over Stokes, Razzaq, Afridi types. Even in batting, Sanju isn't fit to lace Jaddu's shoes, glad he gave a fiery response.

I think he has finally crossed a line, keeps getting personal with some of our players. Manjrekar should be blacklisted by BCCI and all broadcasters.

Nah he is ignorant about fast bowling biomechanics.  He doesn't understands that Bumrah has not got a lot of juice left in him anymore.

This is probably his last Test cycle where Bumrah will operate at full throttle in the limited games he will play.

Asian Games, Asia Cup 27, WC 2027, LA 28..  these are probably the priority for Bumrah alongside maybe SENA ODIs in between.  Bumrah doesn't wants to miss these events or series which matter

Manju is forgetting dude only played 2 tests in a 5 match series for a reason.

Olympics cricket is going to become big and very prestigious.

Gold is gold.

Olympics is a gateway to worldwide appeal for most sports. Cricket has a lot of scope for expansion. In the long term, more countries will take T20 cricket seriously because of this. Belgium was a non-entity in hockey till early 2000s, but now consistent top 4 team. France never had hockey culture, but invested heavily for Paris Olympics, and are now the most improved team, remind me of mid 2000s Belgium.

Football is an exception because FIFA wants to protect its golden goose, the WC. Summer Olympics is FIFA's only competitor when it comes to scale of sporting events.

Basketball mein NBA is the main event. But still who can forget the hype around 1992 Dream Team. Or even in recent Olympics, USA always sends its A listers and it is a marquee event for all Americans. Often they have their basketball players as flagbearers in opening ceremony, like Lebron in Paris.

Coming to individual sportsmen, I still remember Neymar's tears of happiness when he won gold in front of his home crowd. And Djokovic rates his Olympic medal above all other achievements, guy was wearing the medal in public places even 2 weeks after the games got over.

Sanju is an idiot if he feels an Olympic gold can't match up to a cycle agarbathi bilateral series against WI, Aus C and NZ D.

Disagree man, he is a serial hater. Any successful Indian cricketer, this guy gets salty. Only praises Imran's balls and Afridi's handshake grip.

What will Bumrah gain by travelling with the team?  Instead of having rest and having his own training routine.

He will play only ODIs and tests this year.  Is Manju even watching how Australia keeps their fast bowling trio fit and firing before important tournaments and test matches?

A country like China has no cricket culture, but in 20-30 years time I can see them targetting a medal in women's cricket. Easier to make strides there, because other nations aren't that ahead in development...unlike in men's cricket which is tougher to crack.

I see this pattern with East Asian countries, they often target medals in women's events because many countries due to being conservative/backward don't invest enough in their women. This is a opportunity even for India. Look at hockey, a China or Japan can't do much against the top men sides but the Chinese women came so close to gold in Paris, were leading till mid 4th quarter and Dutch needed shootouts to win gold. I see no reason why Chinese women can't reach at least Pak/SL T20 level in one generation, facilities and science-tech anyway will be 100x bigger than what a Pak or SL can afford.

Cricket in Olympics is the biggest breakthrough for our sport in the last 100 years. Huge opportunity to go global. There will be initial hiccups, substandard pitches/events but will become more professional and grow. IOC will ensure cricket gets bigger in future editions, 2 billion plus ka market hai, most of which is unexplored when it comes to Olympics viewership. Same reason why FIFA will also eventually make its WC a 64, then 96 teams event, to capture Chinese, Indian, Indonesian, Pakistani, Bangladesh markets.

Never saw Manjrekar or anyone else call out Kohli when he used to take "breaks" frequently or not play Test series or not even show up for mandatory preparatory camps before tourneys.

Yet they always find a way to call out our biggest match-winner in Bumrah. Bumrah and Pandya are the two players who need to be protected at all costs. They're the most irreplaceable players we have. Bumrah won us 2 WT20s and series in Aus. Why grind him into dust for a meaningless bilateral?

Save both of them and play them selectively to lengthen their career so they can play as many ICC tourneys as possible coz we're not winning shyte without them.

He went after Kohli as well, and Kohli's brother was giving interviews asking him to shut up.

Any successful Indian, this Sanju loser becomes bitter. Bahut hi jealous, salty, neech kisam ka aadmi hai yeh. No idea how he keeps getting hired.

I read the statement and it is coming across as very ignorant one to me.  As I said he expects that Bumrah is only doing this to manage his workload when it was revealed in England tour by Agarkar and TM + Gill himself that his body cannot take continuous cricket anymore and they cannot do anything about it.

Indians generally have very limited understanding for fast bowling or athletics in general.  Boomers in powerful positions anywhere in India are useless.

He never called out Jadeja the test cricketer but Sadeja the limited overs cricketer was always definition of a bits and pieces.  He called it when it was very unpopular to do that.  Sadeja was pressed coz it was the truth.  Player power was at its peak in that Dhoni Kohli Shastri era.

We should normalise constructive criticism in this country actually.  One thing GG and Agarkar have done well is destroying player power.

Actually, he is right about calling Jadeja a BITS-and-PIECES player. What he really meant was:

BIT-by-BIT, Jadeja has PIECED together an ATG test career.
