While most of his fan boys hv been defending him (till now) by saying "he is recovering from a viral fever" They are not mutually exclusive. He has a technical flaw but could also have underperformed in the initial WC matches due to bad health. His innings against NZ in a high stakes match supports this view.
Gollum Posted July 26 Posted July 26 Partnering with 15 yo Vaibhav also brings in additional pressure. Nobody wants to be so thoroughly outclassed by a kid. Jaiswal also struggled with it for RR. These guys have to make peace with the fact that VS is a freakish outlier, and not let his game affect them. rollingstoned, Tillu, Lord and 3 others 6

Tillu Posted July 27 Posted July 27 (edited) Even with all his recent failures he still averages 30 at an enormous strike rate. Hope he iron outs his deficiencies and gets a long rope because just like express pace bowlers you can't deliberately develop these high impact batsmen. Suhaan Posted July 27 Posted July 27 Abhi is not that kind of guy who will get intimidated or insecure watching the kid wrecking havoc,he himself is one of a kind and equally devastating, thing is he is ultra aggressive no matter the situation even if he's in process of making few technical adjustments, people have a wrong impression about the kid that he's just slam bang,in reality he is rather more watchful than guys like Abhi or even Kishan, solid defwnce says he can try his luck even in red ball While Abhis natural game is aggression, moment he b comes watchful he won't have same impact, people like him will have lulls in between, good thing is he is using his bowling to his advantage to compensate An AR Abhi is diamond to this side Sandz and Need4Speed 2
Gollum Posted July 27 Posted July 27 Abhishek fired in a WC final against our nemesis (in a ground where there was additional pressure on us), needs to be backed for that reason alone. Sanju was brilliant that game as well, but the guy who struck fear in NZ camp first up was Abhishek, and as usual the Kiwis lost their heads after that fiery onslaught. These dismissals are wide line dismissals. He has to play close to the body something he used to do before becoming an aggressive player. He was a conservative player. In new conditions he should take his time. It is surprising it took this long for him to hit a rough patch given his high risk approach. Hope they dont bring in shubman Gill for cosnistency. Suhaan 1
putrevus Posted July 27 Posted July 27 (edited) I don't think his place should a given,he is such a one dimesional player. Why Samson gets only three matches but this guy keeps getting chances. Edited July 27 by putrevus Frustrated 1

tapandrun Posted July 27 Posted July 27 Abhishek is v.high impact player , and its what comes with it , some days playing big shots he will get out cheaply. Playing at 200 sr does not come with surety that batter will score every game, unless some1 plays like kolhi where they do not take risk at all these phases are going to come to those players. Every batter have tech. issue especially in t20 where defensive technique is not even secondary thing, all attacking batters have tech. issues, thats the trade-off. The next best sr in t20i after abhishek is Allen and his sr is 20 point below him. New guy 1
putrevus Posted July 27 Posted July 27 (edited) Falling to attacking shot and looking like a one dimensional hack with no idea how to bat on pitches with little bounce are totally two different things. Six straight matches he has failed now, he was carried to finals by his team in world cup also where he was exposed against offspinners. Abhishek was carried by his team just like Dhoni was carried by his team in 2011. But Dhoni being Dhoni hogged all the glory .Gambhir is making sure he gets his share of limelight which he missed then. Edited July 28 by putrevus Frustrated 1

Full credit to him for the way he bulldozed the kiwis that night. The point, however, is that a team usually does not reach the Final 9/10 times in an ICC tournament where one of its openers registers 7 consecutive single digit scores. It was indeed a miracle that we made it to the Finals. putrevus 1

SKY had two dream years. Then started regressing. That was possibly due to age. But Abhishek has time to improve adaptability. Let us not forget he took 6 years to change hid batting style. He was very conservative like Jadeja before. So he can play percentage cricket. But he is backed to the hilt for playing aggressive cricket. Priyansh lacks feet movement. Sai is too conservative. Samson is the only choice besides Jaiswal. New guy and BacktoCricaddict 1 1

Would say its decent , not sure what the fuzz around. he is playing at 170+ sr , bad shot bad days will come, even with that he is avg 24+. putrevus Posted July 28 Posted July 28 If Abhishek is high impact player, Samson is some chopped lever who is useless. Oh I forgot, Samson only won player of the tournament and played three of the greatest t20 innings by any batsman to help his team defend its world cup.
