Ashok was in contention for Ireland & UK tour and BCCI even gave him the visa.. looking at things he would have really enjoyed bowling in Manchester and Trent Bridge.  Ideal fast bowling conditions to suit genuine pace

 

He is currently part of  the red ball Challenger in Bengaluru @express bowling

Like it.  I think playing the red ball Challenger is better for him than random T20Is.

Him and Mayank too are probably over there in Bengaluru for those games.

Before Zimbabwe series they might play two three day games at least as per the schedule you posted on other thread

Bro, personally I would like Ashok to target the top of off stump ball after ball at 147 kph +. And bowl surprise bumpers and yorkers. And not drop below this speed much. 

 

His yorkers will invariably be 153 k / 154 k if he is generally bowling 147 k to 150 k.

 

This speed comes naturally to him and he won't get injured much and will be accurate too.

 

If 160 kph comes naturally as his body matures then good. I would love it. But don't want him to get injured in trying to hit some speed milestone.

As per article and interviewer Ashok is already there and it is likely his Zimbabwe partners Mayank and Yash Thakur are there too.

 

Gurnoor will be part of ODI series so he won't be there.

yeah, agree. A lot of our young pace bowlers keep getting injured. So its good that the intent to bowl fast is there, but need to work with some specialist coaches to ensure sustainability..

I don't think it is needed, no need to become another Akthar.He has enough speed to trouble any batsman.

 

He needs to aim to become more consistent and he needs to play lot of FC cricket. Hopefully emerging as one of candidates for next year's world cup.

Hitting 160kph is encouraging, but even if he dont, I would be happy if he can stay fit and serve India for next 10-12 years.

 

He has pace, he has fitness, he is a good athlete...need to use that and become a reliable pacer for the peak format. A 145-155k pacer with ability to bowl 18-24 overs in a day without losing the radar is worth the Gold.

 

We have been losing our Test class pacers  when we were a strong team both at home and overseas. Umesh, Ishant, Shami are gone...we have got decent stop gaps in form of Prasidh & Akashdeep but their impact isnt what the above 3 had.

 

Success for the likes of Gurnoor, Ashok, Harshit, Eden is going to shape the next decade of Indian Red ball cricket. Likes of Siraj or Bumrah may go away in 2 or 3 years....their body can only take so much workload.

He should be told breaching 160k isn't worth it if you have a inconsistent career..

If he bowls at 147-150k with red ball in some accurate wicket taking spells he will have his own legacy.

 

With white ball eventually he will push to 156-157ks.. when he is in the zone anyways

Probably he will breach in T20s and maintain lowish 150s

and in other formats he will be happy to be consistent around 145-150..

Hopefully he will build up pace gradually with accuracy and fitness to sustain it

Similarly asking him to bowl mindlessly short stuff isnt needed as well.

 

I hope Ashok gets his debut in Tests alongside Bumrah & Gurnoor...Gurnoor can take care of back of length, Ashok can rip the new ball with Bumrah and then can use his pace to clean up the tail. Tour to NZ will be ideal but mostly there Siraj will play.

 

But he has to perform first in T20s.

160k takes a lot out of your body. He could start spraying the ball.

If he is bowling close to 160k's at good length and line, he will invariably win matches for India. So, having a goal of 160k's is not bad. Let him have it.

160k happens once in a blue moon for an express pacer... 

You don't wanna push needlessly for it 

Having good line and length at 150-155k and moving the ball at top of off is more than enough.

Rabada Archer are prime examples 

 

I hope he has a career like Rabada than a Akhtar or Tait.

Good for the youngster. Always aim high. 

 

If we can produce so many 85m+ throwers in javelin, no reason why we can't prouduce tearaway quicks. Biomechanics is similar, Indian bodies can handle the stresses that come with 160 bowling. Mindset was holding us back for so many years.

This is the attitude I want to see in fast bowlers. 
Off course he knows wickets matter but as a fast bowler aim high always and u need aggression + confidence.
This is where Mayank lacks.
