And there are literally 10s of players who play India A although they are not wanted in the Senior Team. No. High chance Kamboj and Nabi are not wanted by the Coach but they are playing for India A. Remember Kohli saying that Easwaran is not good enough for tests but he kept getting picked for India A. Panchal too. What happens is .... if player X is liked / wanted by any TM .... he usually gets to play for India A. But TMs don't get to pick the entire A-team squad. Agree. Easwaran was selected for India squad too once or twice just not in the XI. Ideally India A should have players that selectors are auditioning for the main role. Everyone from that won’t play for India but that is the process. If someone is shadow banned and not considered for top selection at all, it will be wasting a spot in India A If I am not wrong he is still performing well in Ranjis
Manucrick Posted July 28 Posted July 28 Dhruv Jurel really needs to step up in the Sri Lanka series Outside of his debut against England and that Test century against the West Indies he hasn't had many standout performances Let's see if he can capitalize on this opportunity

And that is the relevant fact. Keeping usually reduces averages due to the tiredness factor. If your sample size is just 4 tests as pure batsman, what relevance does it have ! Anyway you look at Jurel , he is backup keeper. Sarfraz only played 6 tests and he has been kicked to curb for a guy like Jurel. Jurel is not a batsman.

Unless you spot something like poor technique or slow reflexes in a batsman or low pace in a pacer, or no spin or zip in a spinner. In which case he should not be picked in the first place. And this is not the case with Jurel. Infact it is the other way round. Jurel or any other newbie can fail due to poor temperament, which becomes evident only after a decent run. And if it turns out to be the case he should be dropped. Mosher and rollingstoned 2

Jurel can he replicate the high of other 3 even if he plays another 50 tests. As long as Pant is there Jurel has only place as a batsman. The answer is no, so why waste time on guy . You don't keep on wasting time on guys like him . Ten tests in good enough sample to prove your worth. Edited July 28 by putrevus

That too vs SA when entire team collectively failed. He only gets an odd test overseas otherwise. 1 game in Eng, 1 in Australia. That's not easy for anyone. Did look decent in Oval, nice cameo. Only 1 inns in Perth on a absolute minefield. Scored few good shots.. didn't get a Chance in second inns and then dropped for remainder of the tour Edited July 28 by Lone Wolf singhvivek141 and express bowling 2

You are classic pump and dumper Will pump ordinary players when not in team dn when they fail you dump them Jurel is a not a pure bat neither is pant there is a reason they took wicketkeeping so that they get selected

Anyone can throw random statements that Rohit or Kohli weren't good in bowling and hence they took batting to get selected. Richard Hadlee wasn't a pure bowler and hence he took batting to get selected. Wicket keeping is a specialized position in the ground, where you need absolute best coz that player is almost 100% of the time involved in the game. It takes immense mental strength, physical agility and concentration coz one drop by a keeper can change the course of the game (on the other hand, catches taken by him are easily forgotten). Usually, the keepers become better with the bat once they leave the gloves, shows how challenging keeping is. So, I would say Pant and Jurel are actually punching below their capability due to the extra pressure of keeping. Sangakkara avg 66 as pure bat, 40 as a wk-bat. Alec Stewart avgs 47 and 35 respectively. Jos Butler avgs 36 and 30. Baz has 45 and 34. Only exceptions to the rule are ABD and Andy Flower...but Andy flower was in his heydays when he gave up keeping. ABD is a true exception. express bowling, New guy and JaFanatic 3
