Ajit Agarkar Was 'Angry' At BCCI For Backing Rohit Sharma, Realised He Couldn't Drop Him

According to a PTI report, Rohit was at the centre of the breakdown of the BCCI-Agarkar relationship. The report said that before the three-ODI series against England, Agarkar, with support of the Indian team management and even some BCCI officials, decided to move on from Rohit. South Zone selector Pragyan Ojha, who’s Rohit’s good friend, was tasked with communicating the decision to the veteran.

 

 

The reasoning behind it was that Agarkar didn’t want to rely on Rohit, who would be 40 next year, for the 2027 World Cup and wanted to give the natural successor, Yashasvi Jaiswal, a run of about 20 ODIs to make his place.

 

However, Rohit was not happy with the decision and how he was being ‘treated’ by the selectors. The report said he approached a ‘a very powerful administrator’, following which Saikia made his remark that dropped like a bombshell before the final ODI against England at Lord’s.

 

VVS Laxman and Agarkar also had big differences over handling injured players and India A scheduling. Laxman, known for prioritising strong teams, favoured fielding the best available players, while Agarkar questioned the need to send a first-choice side to the Asian Games.

Good riddance for kicking this useless fellow as a selector, he ruined all team by filling them up with useless bits and pieces players like Sundar and jurel in all formats and ignoring much more deserving candidates.

 

If he was dancing to tunes of Gambhir then he was more useless than we have given him credit.

Agarkar did brought in Gurnoor, Mayank, Ashok, Harshit. Prasidh under his tenure has done well in Tests, Mayank won the MoS against Zimbabwe...Ashok & Harshit are clearly a level or two above the 4 horsemen whose name I mentioned above.

 

If Agarkar goes out, then I want a selector who has vision to select the fast bowlers, not the weak malnourished trundlers.

Once you select young players you need to back them,  why was Mayank not playing in England.Were guys like Ashok persisted??

 

Kamboj was sent to England as replacement and when he was more useless than the guy present in Prasidh , Prasidh played Oval test and lucked out on few wickets.Stop calling Prasidh as even decent bowler.

Agarkar gave chances to Gurnoor right ? Did the previous selection committee even bothered about him ? I am sure they weren't even aware of the fact that a tall 6.5 inch bowler who can bowl 140-150k even exists, didnt Dravid said we dont have tall fast bowlers ? Gurnoor is still in the squad so it shows they have trust over him.

 

They did it despite of the fact that Aaqib Nabi PR was literally abusing Gill, Agarkar & GG for the non selection of Nabi, as Gurnoor didnt play IPL.

 

Mayank's non selection was a cause of concern, but he is for the WI series, that shows he is in the scheme of things. Ashok is injured at the moment but still Agarkar went with Yash Thakur instead of Mukesh Koomar coz he wants pace. Only thing which Agarkar could have done more in selecting Tyagi as well..but its still an upgrade over the past jokers.

 

As I said, I am up for new selector if he can pay attention to fast bowlers. But Agarkar has done more right than previous selectors. 

 

Prasidh is decent, he thrives on the pitches where you have to hit the deck hard and generate bounce. He has done it in England, Australia and even in recently concluded SL series. Not the star of the show but definitely better than many pacers who are stat padding in domestics courtesy of slow and low bounce pitches.

Its frustrating to see how myopic our selectors and ex commentators can be.

 

Power struggle & ego clashes in Indian Cricket is genuine and disagreements arent considered as constructive criticism to evaluate a player at depth.

 

No wonder why we keep on selecting likes of B Kumar & V Kumar in Australia where batters toy with them at their 120kph pace..making a mockrey of our pace bowling culture.

Forgot to tell, Agarkar is responsible for Abhishek Sharma's inclusion. The rocket engine of our T20 team, he is the one who brought back Varun C as well, plus even Tilak Varma got strong backing from Agarkar...he is limited but helped us won a crucial tournament final against the terrorist nation.

 

He is also responsible for revival of Ishan Kishan & Sanju Samson.

I wouldn't be surprised by anything with the new selectors anything can happen Agarkar was the one who kept Bhuvi away from the Indian team dropped Rahul from the T20 setup and moved on from the underperforming Rohit and Kohli in Tests
