Sidhoni Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 Its sweet looking at majority posts on this thread taking pot shots at Dhoni for backing him

Which other cricketer other than ishant has had that many chances?

If anyone made that prediction here 3-4 years ago it would have been moved to jokes section. Rohit has definitely had more chances than Jadeja. Btw getting one right? He was the one saving Kohli from getting dropped from the test team in the Aus tour of 2011. Kohli, Ashwin, Jadeja all of our top players today have been backed by him. Kohli and Ashwin always had talents. At least Kohli did. He did enough in the domestics even before selecting. I mean you can say Dhoni backed the likes of Ishant and Jadeja because it's true. And Jadeja has had more chances than Rohit. Rohit always showed talent too. He was highly praised all those years.

Rohit for all his potential had a sub 30 avg for many years but Dhoni did not drop him even after facing criticism from everywhere. Dhoni resurrected his career by sending him to open in LOIs. Jadeja wasn't poor was as long as Rohit was. And Rohit didn't do as well as Jadeja after fulfilling potential. World #1 bowler in test cricket is big deal. Also a better all format player than Rohit.

Rohit is a mumbai player. They are not dropped. He had the mumbai mafias backing him. And when did I say Rohit did better than Jadeja? My point was players like Kohli, Ashwin, Rohit were always going to be picked regardless of the captain. I give credit to Dhoni for persisting with Jadeja but he got so many chances. Even in ODIs, he has played more than 100 matches and yet I can only name one two innings where he has won the match. P.S I have no problems with Jadeja making me eat crow. Heck I wish all the players I have criticized over the years make me eat crow even though I'm a veggie. Edited March 19, 2017 by laaloo Pollack 1

Why didn't Mumbai Mafia back Rahane then? Constantly in and out of ODI team. Kohli was failing in test cricket in every opportunity till then and think tank wanted to drop him, but Dhoni saved him. How many other captains would do that, we'll never know. But you can not just take away credit from Dhoni when Kohli himself has admitted to being saved. Rohit was never going to be backed for so long by any other captain. I tell you what, I am not even proud of that. Rohit was atrocious at one point in SL scoring 13 runs in a 5 match series. Average was below 30 with SR below 70. Dhoni has without a doubt been a huge factor in his success, probably the biggest.
Shunya Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 Wow...what a thread...big KLPD...usual suspects with Dhoni hate in 2012 still going strong...
Pollack Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 Dhoni was rightly criticized for backing Jadeja at that time.Yes it paid off and kudos to Jadeja and Dhoni but this doesn't change the fact that Jadeja got so many chances without doing jacksh.it that had he not be good eventually we would have had yet another disappointing investment like Ishant. Now you could sit back and call Dhoni visionary but there was absolutely no guarantee that the gamble would pay off some day.He was so mediocre initially. sensible-indian 1
rkt.india Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 I don't think jaddu's was ever doubted. It was his batting.
