Ram Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Quoting Shwetabh quoting somebody else – Lots of people have climbed the Everest since then, but Edmund Hillary will always be the most remembered name. We may have had several close finishes in the last decade, but last over victory against Pakistan in Dhaka was the original Apollo on the moon moment. Can never, ever forget it! Successful 300+ run chases maybe routine these days, but back then, chasing 315 was unheard of, especially in a big final.
Trichromatic Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Have we never won on the last ball:hmmm: http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/records/283930.html India won 6th ODI against NZ in 2002-03 series on last ball.
GautiMaan Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 India won 6th ODI against NZ in 2002-03 series on last ball. http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/64818.html Srinath then ran a leg bye from the next ball and last man in Ashish Nehra faced up to the penultimate ball, with the New Zealand field right up. He slashed at the ball and ran the single to claim the victory for his side. But it is a good addition to vvvs thread:two_thumbs_up:
zep1706 Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/64562.html Rajesh chauhan stunned Pakistan crowd into silence with a slog swept six in the final over. I remember listening to the end of that match on radio because there was a power outage. :--D
maniac Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 I remember that Rajesh Chauhan game....infact that series....but unfortunately the thing about that series is etched for ever in my memory is that freaky Ijaz Ahmed innings where he was hitting 6's at will But yeah nothing beats the Dhaka Chase...Kanitkar was an overnight hero but I am glad we dumped him soon once we found out he was mediocre at best .

StriKe Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 How many from Dhoni? This won't answer your question but interesting stats.. Alternative Cricket @AltCricket STATGASM! India have only lost once in ODI chases where MS Dhoni has been not out at the end.

For whatever reason, the 2002 Natwest Final is the one that sticks out as the watershed match for Team India!

I think this was the first ODI win of India in Pakistan soil. One on 1977-78 was marred by crowd trouble and bad umpiring/bowling cheats and Bedi walked out. Even in this match, there was a lot of crowd trouble. It was as if Pak can never lose on their soil to India. Statsguru says it is the third.
