Am I the only one who thinks McGill is quite overrated in this aspect. Wicket-taker definitely, but his control was extremely poor. His average against India and Sri Lanka is over 50.

Even Warne and Murli averages 45odd against India. An orthodox leg spinner's beauty is turning the ball, not control and he could turn the ball miles. Wrist spinners usually lack the control of a finger spinner.

McGill was overrated. Massively so. Yes, he picked up a ton of English wickets but given that nobody except Thorpe could play spin to save their lives in the 90s England side, its no big deal. McGill also picked up a lot of wickets because the batsmen went after him, partly because he was the easiest Aussie bowler to hit amongst the pack and partly because he bowled atleast one 'four-ball' per over. he's kinda the 4th bowler with decent variations that picks up a ton of wickets because he is way too good to be a 4th bowler but he was nowhere close to being a number 1 spinner in the side. If McGill had to carry the attack long term, he would've struggled to average less than 35. Because then batsmen would've played him out more.

Heck even Ishant has played 50 tests ... He would have played 100+ tests.
