The Samajwadi Party on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi saying he did not enjoy a national stature required to become the country's prime minister. In an under the belt attack on the BJP's prime ministerial candidate, SP general secretary Naresh Agarwal said, "A tea vendor's point of view can never be that of a national stature. Narendra Modi says he used to sell tea, now he says he wants to be the prime minister." "It does not work like that. If a constable is given an SP's job, his perspective will not change. It will remain that of a constable," Agarwal added. The Congress was quick to react to Agarwal's personal attack on Modi. Joining the Modi-bashing bandwagon, Union Minister Harish Rawat said, "A tea seller can become prime minister, but Narendra Modi has the mettle even I have doubts on this." Reacting to Agrawal's jibe at Modi, BJP spokesman Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said, "Secularism ke syndicate ko depression ka dengue ho gaya hai."
