South Africa still brilliant at home and a fantastic bowling attack and Australia probably the only team to have won a series in South Africa in last few years. They are playing better cricket all of a sudden. What a series this is going to be.

Recent cricket results have been unexpected, Everyone expected poms to lose in India but they won, Everyone expected aussie to get whitewashed in eng but they managed 2 draws, The recent ashes everyone was backing england for a 2-1,3-1 they got whitewashed, no one expected eng to get whitewashed in uae, no one expected eng to win a test in lanka, no one gave india a chance in sa yet they managed a draw, now everyone is expecting a close series because of aussie pace attack but in reality sa will win comfortably IMO, many are expecting pak to thrash lanka at home but we might see a close 1-0 series either way.

CoverDrive Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 will be a good series. SA has much better batting lineup but they are weak in terms of bowling depth and spin. Kallis may still be missed as he is still a better allrounder than Watson tough to take a call and for me the series to look forward to this year

Most of them dont have the temperament to leave lots of balls outside off, stay at the wicket for a long time and accumulate runs if the wicket has lots of grass. Aus bowling will do well there though. SA and Aus both play with the red Kookaburra and bowlers who hit the deck usually succeed on both Aus and SA pitches. They usually produce good contests. Though Ashes is overhyped a lot, it usually produces one sided contests because England and Aus play much different styles of cricket.

Vijy Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Expect a 2-1 result IF pitches are result oriented. However, flatter pitches help SA neutralize Johnson. However, on result oriented pitches, I expect the SA's greater experience and depth in batting to be conclusive.

Aussies always had guts to win the match even at risk of losing it and Proteas want safety first and look for win later. Both teams had everything else which is comparable.

Aussies are mentally strong, very strong. They are thick as a titanium in that aspect. We were mentally done and dusted after the 2nd game in both the series in England and Australia and so was England after the Perth match. Although they lost, the Aussies looked tough and determined against us in the Delhi Test early this year despite the hammering the received in all three matches. You can't break them.

Just look at recent series, Australia's top order is very very fragile and I doubt RSA bowlers will be very generous to Australia's lower order. If I remember correctly, Australia have never lost a series in RSA since RSA's re-admission in international cricket. Based on current forms and depths, I'd say RSA would be marginal favorites but X-factors Steyn and Johnson can turn the games around very quickly. Also, England is the only team with a series-win in RSA. They won 2-1 in 2004-05.

India in 2004 came back from a 1-1 aus series and wallopped Pak in Pak so unexpectedly. It was mainly because the batting was super confident from a tough and successful Aus series. Same here, Aus is high on Eng whitewash, SA might be down as they didn't expect the India test series to go all 5 days/test. So, I am expecting Aus to win the series 2-1.
veer Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Both are evenly balanced.. both have slight chinks in their batting dept but bowling is two of the best. However, I think Aus got an edge just cuz of their brand of cricket.. they try to get win from every situation. Attacking all the time.. All in all... a good series to follow.

Two teams in red hot form packed with world class bowlers and in form good batsmen. Australia to win 2-1, I mean who in this world can stop Mitchell Johnson?
