kubrickian Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Seriously, do you think Ishant , Ashwin or even B Kumar will be effective against teams like Australia, SA, England or even other sides ? They will be thrashed all over the park all day. We will have to chase 350-360 in every game and if we bat first, we will struggle to defend any total. Shame on BCCI that we are not able to produce better bowlers than these. Dhoni is a nut job if he thinks persisting with these bowlers and giving them "confidence" will make them better. Its high time other bowlers like Umesh, Aaron, Ishwar are tried even if we lose a few games to see if they are good enough as clearly the current bunch won't cut it.
Gollum Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 We have good bowlers who can deliver in the WC, but the idiotic management won't play them. That is the sad part because compared to the 90s when we had no real speedster, now we have really talented prospects like Yadav, Aaron.

Except for Virat, I have been very disappointed in everyone from the openers to the lower middle order. The only shining light is Kohli and MSD's freakish ability to be able to win from almost any situation as a finisher. we are fecked for this WC unless there are some SERIOUS turn arounds and fast.

veer Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 It is not all doom and gloom people.. It is actually a very good reality check for the world cup. We have a perfect calender year to be prepared for world cup. All teams raise their game up against us regardless of who we play.. Most underdog teams try to perform much better against us. Hence, we are getting these results. Yeah.. there are issues. MSD should be trying Aaron and Yadav.. and I hate to watch the way RoSharma and Dhawan are playing but you gotta give them a chance 2-3 series in these conditions otherwise we are back to square one. Even Veeru/Gambhir failed in foreign conditions so we dont have other option.. Personally.. I want to see following happening before deciding WC squad.. Test out Yadav/Aaron/Shami/Bhuvi combo Leave out Ashwin, try genuine wicket taking spinner instead (Rasool?) Pujara at number 4... (with Rahane opening with either Dhawan or RoSharma)

Even here, they folded for 268 and 271 pretty quickly because of the pressure of RRR. Which is why I don't get why the F Dhoni keeps opting to bowl first. Back your batting to put up a big total and then let bowlers loose, law of averages will catch up and we might defend a few of those.. batting 2nd away we have no chance chasing 300 every time.

Muloghonto Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I am not sure why people are picking on Bhuvi, who i think is the best ODI bowler India has today. ODI bowling is about containment. You cannot contain without a wicket-taking bowler, which is what Shami is but ultimately, 10-1-30-0 is just as valuable, if not more, than 7-0-50-4 in an ODI context. Bhuvi is the first name I'd put down on the ODI list because nobody is spanking Bhuvi in his first spell. Someone needs to build the pressure right from the word get-go on opposition batsmen and Bhuvi is that man.

He just needs to take more wickets but he adds pressure, creates doubt and creates chances. Bhuvi, Shami, aaron, pandey, yadav, maybes: kulkarni

Shami at times, might go for runs but will definitely get wickets. Bhuvneshwar on the other end, will keep things tight and will be very vital for us when we are defending any kind of total. Even if bowling first, he will put pressure from one end and might not be attacked by players who will be cautious facing him, but that will result in wickets coming from the other end. Bhuvneshwar to me is the best right now in India in ODI'S. Followed by Shami. We have these two players who will be playing 2015 world cup for sure. I hope they play. They are good.
