This was also his debut test match, and he became one of the few achievers to score a ton on debut. Sehwag batted at number 6 when the score was 68-4 and he along with his idol, Sachin Tendulkar put on a 220 run partnership. What a moment to be involved in a 200+ long stand on debut with your idol! Later Sachin got out, but Sehwag continued his brilliant work. He got out when the team's total reached 351. The knock involved 19 fours. I think SL batted for an hour or so that day before their innings ended. I stayed awake to watch Sehwag bat expecting him to be around for an hour so. That day Viru batted like he was enacting a highlight reel. The ball fled to the boundary like an eager refugee running for the border. Pace, spin, nothing made an impression on him. He kept dismissing the ball from his presence. In just a few hours he had reached the 290s and looking good for another crack at a triple century. Unfortunately he got out and suddenly it was like a dream had ended. I had ended up staying awake all night. I showed up for work like a zombie the next day but I was a happy zombie reliving a dream like innings by Viru.

Later, when I was on 295, before Saqlain Mushtaq bowled I told Sachin that whether it was slow, fast or whatever, I would step out and hit him for six. He said, “Are you mad?” I said, “No, whatever will happen, will happen. I don’t care, I want to hit a six now”. I hit the ball for six and became the first Indian to score a triple century.
