NEW DELHI: Samjawadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Thursday opposed the new anti-rape law and said that his party would change the law that entails death for rape. Addressing a rally in Moradabad, Mulayam said, "rape accused should not be hanged. Men make mistakes." Questioning the death sentence to three men who were convicted of two gang-rapes in Mumbai last week, Mulayam said, "Should rape cases be punished with hanging? They are boys, they make mistakes." The SP chief further said he will support provision for legal action against those who misuse the rape act. Mulayam's comments evoked strong reactions with other parties slamming him for his insensitive comments. "We condemn Mulayam Singh's statement. There should be zero tolerance for rape and crime against women," the Congress said. Slamming Mulayam's statement, Kiran Bedi said, "This statement is not just against women, it is against the society. The should be punished with no votes." http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/home/lok-sabha-elections-2014/news/Mulayams-shocker-on-rape-Boys-make-mistakes-why-hang-them/articleshow/33561516.cms ------------------------------------------------ I am speechless.

You missed an another part of what he said. He actually said "ladke ladkiyon...., baad me mathbedh hoga ya...."

Boys and girls ....later they had differences, and the girl went and gave a statement that I have been raped. And then the poor fellows, three of them have been sentenced to death. Should rape cases lead to hanging? They are boys, they make mistakes. Two or three have been given the death sentence in Mumbai. We will try and change such laws...we will also ensure punishment of those who report false cases,"

Death penalty should be reserved for cold blooded killers.
The three were repeat gang rapists. Are they any less than cold blooded killers. They would plan and execute these gang rapes brutally .

He is not making an intellectual argument against death sentence, which everyone is free to do so. He is saying the girl and the boys had some kind of disagreement, by which he is most likely implying that there was some form of agreement, the girl had provided some form of consent earlier but later there was a disagreement which lead to her filing false?? charges of rape, and now the poor fellows have been wrongly sentenced to death. With court finding enough proof to convict, that's a disgusting position to take no matter which side of the death penalty debate you are on.

Just wondering, what's MULLAyam's interest in this case? Are there any minority people in the those convicts? Usually he doesn't makes any off topic statements unless there's any minority issue involved...

Wonder how he'd feel about boys being boys if one of the women in his family got sexually assaulted. Everything's cool, until the point when you are at the receiving end of things.

If he had made this statement before the Delhi case, paragons of secularism would be defending him.....anyway why is this a shocker,it's Mulayam who said that FFS,was expected if anything

Do you know, for most women, its better to die than get raped?

Also an incredibly irresponsible statement from the SP chief. Now expect boys making more "mistakes" in UP in the coming months. Scary thought for all UP ladies, including Mulayam's wife, daughters, grand daughters or daughter in laws.

expected from politicians like mulayam on the 'holy land of secularism'. he gave this speech in the tentative election time so hopefully the people of UP give him a fitting response by 16th may
