Muloghonto Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 IMO the big issue with Indian lineup would be confidence in our batting. We should do better with the bat than we did in England because the Aussie conditions are more similar to South African conditions. Brisbane aside, we can expect almost all the wickets to have pace, bounce and on the last day and half, some turn. Not much movement though. Our batters would do well to remember their exploits against a much superior south african attack on their turf and remind themselves that conditions would be similar. Our bowling would be a bigger worry IMO because we do not have the composition right. We need to play Ishant, Yadav, Aaron as our frontline bowlers, backed up by Ashwin. We need bowlers who can bowl fast, hit the deck hard and move the ball at pace. Bhuvi will not be effective after the first 6 overs of the new ball. Pankaj might do well there but i fear the selectors are done with him. Oh and we need to keep Sehwag in the periphery. Our opening partnership needs to click. We cannot expect 2 openers to average 40+ in foreign conditions but what we can and should expect is a 50 run opening partnership once every 3 innings atleast. Dhawan is woefully out of form in tests and Gambhir is done, period. Only murali vijay has shown he belongs at the top order of Indian lineup and IMO we need to look at other options for now. IMO it should be Sehwag and someone else. MSD at #6 did a whole lot better than i expected him to, so i think its worth going in with 5 bowlers. I predicted that we;d struggle to get England out with 4 bowlers and i was correct- Indian bowlers simply are not incisive enough to get the job done with just 4 of them. our best bet is to pick bowlers who can work well together and not get tired easily due to the 5th bowler being present. Our lineup should be: Vijay Sehwag/ ? Pujara Kohli Rahane MSD Ashwin Bhuvi Ishant Yadav ?
rajmarie Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 ^^^ Sehwag...lol...We have already see how Gambhir forced entry into Indian team worked out. Sehwag is over also as far as Indian team is concerned.

Sehwag is over also as far as Indian team is concerned. I dont think so, Sehwag still has 2 years left in him. Dont compare Sehwag and Gambhir....ever. It always took good balls to get Sehwag out or he got out playing an outrageous shot. Gambhir has been a walking wicket due to his poke to third man syndrome, which can never, ever ever work in test cricket.

For the opening position, i will go back to Shikar. Shikar Vijay Pujara Rahane Kohli MSD Ash Bhuvi Aaron Ishant Umesh Bumrah, Rohit, Naman Ojha, Sir Jadeja, xxxx (a pacer one of Dhawal Kulkarni Punkaj Pandey etc whoever is doing well in the ranji season) If Shikar does fail then we should contemplate opening with Che.
jusarrived Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 We are at least Drawing this series . Mark my words :)

ZeroBlack Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 We are just going to treat the Aus tour and the world cup as a process towards a greater goal. What is India's greater goal?

FischerTal Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 What is the right process? to tell people not to be jealous of IPL after you get humiliated
ZeroBlack Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 to tell people not to be jealous of IPL after you get humiliated Wow that's so simple, wonder why others haven't figured it out yet.
rkt.india Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Don't think any Aussie pitch will be much faster or bouncier than what we saw at Old Trafford.
Laaloo Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 What is the right process? The process is never ending.
ZeroBlack Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 The process is never ending. Until the cows come home?
vvvslaxman Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Don't think any Aussie pitch will be much faster or bouncier than what we saw at Old Trafford. Swing is what did these guys. Not many could handle the swinging conditions. They just played the line of the ball so frequently edged the ball. Didn't play late enough to wait for the ball to completely swing. Strangely Ashwin was the only one who played very late . Vijay left well. But when he got unplayable deliveries he couldn't play late. Same with others. They played the line and got sucked into shots.
Deleted_User_1 Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Australia tour will be much tougher than the recently concluded England tour: a)India always struggle more in bounce and hard pitches. b)Our record in Australia even during our golden era is dismal. c)This being a young side will be absolutely pummeled down under. d)Australia is much much better and no nonsense team than England. e)England is the only overseas country where we have done reasonable well historically. If we perform so poorly here, imagine what will happen in Australia. f)ODI series will have England as 3rd team, so don't think we have any chance there as well. Only positive form the tour will be enough practice before the World cup. Haar haar ke...haar haar ke finally we will learn how to cope with bounce before WC :giggle: I just hope we don't go worse than we did there in 99. Be afraid, be very afraid! If 99 was anaaal reaming, this one is going to tear out the intestines through the aussholes!!
TheWall Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 India wont fare as badly as in Englaznd... they will play extremely well... and will make sure that the match doesn't end on 3rd day.... but on 4th day...with innings defeat...
Sonix768 Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Too early to predict. Will have to look into AUS players' form. I dont think there is any good young players like Ballance, Root, Buttler coming up in Aus currently. Theoretically India will not perform poorly in Australia. Right after the WI series our batsmen will be high on confidence. They, esp Rohit can leave balls without having to worry about getting bowled or lbw because of the bounce.
kubrickian Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Don't think any Aussie pitch will be much faster or bouncier than what we saw at Old Trafford. This. Pitches at Old Trafford and Oval had lots of pace and bounce and seam movement which is usually not the case because there will be swing in England which is helpful for bowlers, so they tend to have normal type pitches which we saw in series against Sri Lanka. But because England lost that series, they went all out and prepared pitches with more pace, bounce and grass. Honestly, most batsmen would have struggled in those conditions against good bowlers like Anderson and Broad. There is no way England could have prepared pitches like these against Australia or South Africa as their bowlers would have mauled them. Indian bowlers were not good enough to bowl out England cheaply as English bowlers did.
