You never know how bad and over how long a period the bad patch will last and dip the career average. Pujara looked solid in SA during our tour there in 2010/11. Though he did not score a lot of runs at Durban his technique looked solid. But nowadays, though he is scoring some runs outside India, he looks tentative and it appears that he could get out any moment. He seems to be mentally shot and he must come out of this hole himself.

Sadly, he has only 4 more innings, at the most , to prove to himself that he is a good batsman outside the subcontinent. If he misses this bus then he will have to live with the stigma of being an FTB for a long time.

If this is true, then it is usually a rephrased version of point one. You do not lose ten years of hard work in an instant. Regression of young players at the international level is almost always a mental issue. Otherwise, the player must be very lazy and I don't think that is the case with Pujara. It is possible that Pujara has the same set of skills as before, but other teams have worked him out? In this age of computers, teams are constantly prying out opponent players with advanced tools, so you need to constantly evolve or else perish. Then it is only a matter of refining his technique. Or could he be having some relationship issues with Kohli, as both are contenders for captaincy? Now that can affect his game.

Seeing this innings i can see there is a consistent effort from Aussie bowlers to bowl inswingers to Pujara as he leaves a gap since he is not fully committed on the frontfoot. May be that technique works on Indian wickets as you can make late adjustment He grew up playing on super pattas against sub par attacks. His learning curve will be steeper . Some of the balls he gets out to are not really wicket taking deliveries.

He has become too timid. For each failure he is getting more and more timid. He is ultra defensive and ultra careful about not losing his wicket . No real fluency in his batting. Ian chappell picked that as well. When Pujara gets going in tests he usually scores rapidly. He is trying very hard to live upto the hype . It is not easy to come back after a break and start performing especially when you had a poor series previously. He is one who could have been really benefitted by that WI test series. Kohli was out of form too but he played ODIs and got his touch back.
