Rain played crucial part in knocking South Africa out

Full credit to NZ for chasing almost 300 but one has to feel that South Africa got robbed with the rain. I think they could have put about 350+ as we all know they are fully capable of with the line up they had, but during 38th over rain messed it up for them. 350+ was just never going to this easy even after Mccullum's assault. A lot of people are wakin up and participating in choke thread, but this is where saf really got unlucky

They got lucky with the toss Blaming the rain is nonsense when u win toss and choose to bat first despite knocking rain threat. Any team would have happily defended 300 of 43 over in a WC semi final

If hypothetically people want to assume that SA would have got 350+ if it had not rained, why can't they hypothetically also assume that McCullum would have then got a 100 and NZ would have chased the total in the 50th over? :dontknow:

Dont think so. After Rain, ABDV didnt get to bat much. Only miller. They still had 12 overs left and could easily have mustered 350 there. Chasing 350 in 50 is much more demanding than 298 in 43. A longer game would have favored them more.

300 in 43 defendable in a semi final. If this is the kind of fielding they were going to put up , they cannot defend even 400 in 50 overs.

In T20 world cup in SL the ten min rain delay totally changed the pitch state for India vs Australia. The one match knocked India out, it happpens weather is something you cannot control. They had chances in the field but they clearly became tight, especially AB with that run out chance, When NZ could chase in 300 in 43 they sure could have scored more runs against Vernon and AB.

Rain def screwed over SA but 300 in 43 overs could have been defended if they fielded well.

Hurt them massively ... AB would have gone bezerk with those short boundaries ... they could have posted 350+ and the Kiwis would never have chased that against a semi decent attack. Kiwi's got lucky on many fronts today.

And the bang bang cannot last long... WI innings in QF for example... They got to 250 in 30 overs, RR much higher than the starting RRR, but they would have needed 20 wickets to win... NZ already being 6 down would have stuttered to get 360 off 50 overs... It is a mental block as well

Cant say for sure, ABDV might have goot out the next ball, who know> The point is NZ batted beautifully and Saffers didnt take thier chances in the field... I didnt see the whole of the second innigs, I remember ABDV and De Kock missing run outs, then few drops, the keeper missing a few direct hits to get elliot run out when he was taking blind singles to get on strike.., STeyn bowling half trackers and being hit for sixes..

SA also had luck going their way.... Even ABDV was dropped by Williamson, what if it was taken.... MIller scored so many coz he was batting for 3/4 overs... what if he had to bat for 12, how would he have reacted.... You see this hypothetical journey has no defined roads, it can lead you anywhere

Saffers got extremely unfortunate with rain once again. I would go on to the extent of saying Saffers were robbed of a victory here. At the end of 38 overs, South Africa was nicely set up for final assualt where they would have raked some 150 runs in 12 overs. ABDV had shifted gears and Faf was nicely set. These final assaults have been regular feature of South African innings in last few months. But unfortunately they never got a chance to uinleash that final assault, having done all the work of setting themselves up for that assault. I think they would surely have gone to a score of 360-380 on this small ground which would have been beyond reach for sloggers of NZ. Once again unfortunate for South Africa.:((

SA was certainly unlucky on this front today..5 overs after a rain break is to0 little time to improvise. If i am right,the D/L method takes into account data which may not be relevant anymore since teams started scoring 300 for fun. some tweaking could be required there. that's how it goes..we have to overcome even unfair barriers for success at times today they did get an unfair hurdle in their way. however , they still had chances when nz was down to 4 and few other crucial breaks..but they didn't take those they failed to get the best of their bowlers compared to what nz and ind got from their unheralded bowlers...only tahir was a revelation that's their key failure for the tournament their top 6 was always inflated as one of the best when they actually just very good.but they did their job today to an extent Also they miss a fanie villeirs type miserly,canny bowler at the death.

SA definitely had better chance of winning in a 50 over game. A cameo at the top of the order wasn't going to be enough for a 350 chase. Heck, it wasn't even enough for a 300 chase, but for SA bottling it under pressure. But full credit for the blackcaps for making this stiff chase of 300 off 43.
