Ultimate_Game Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 As we feared Rahane pottered around and kept on wasting deliveries on a patta where 200+ is the par score. At the same stadium where England chase 229 against SA, Rahane wasted 35 balls to get 40 at a SR of 110 or thereabouts! With batsmen like Dhawan, Rohit, Kohli etc. you know they will make up the SR when they are in but Rahane continues to potter around at the SR between 110-120 no matter what. With hitters like Pandya and Raina not even used, Rahane was defending a ball in the 15th over with 9 wkts remaining! If that isn't selfish batting I don't know what is. The guy cost India 15 runs and it may well turn out to be the difference in the match. one thing is for certain - Rahane doesn't belong in shorter formats and should stick to Tests like Murali Vijay and Pujara. randomGuy 1
sandeep Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 Yes. Day is not far when batsmen get retired out if they are hurting team momentum, in a game that matters.
tweaker Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 Pandey should have open the inning Bigg Brother 1
zen Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 (edited) Copy and paste from match thread: "Ind 192 / 2 Notes: Appears 30 runs short of the total they would have liked to get .... Would rather be 220/8 than 192/2 Kohli played another superb knock However, this is still a fighting total Once again it is up to bowling and fielding to win it for Ind .... Have to pick big WI wkts early to put pressure on it NOW if Ind wants to bat like in ODIs on such surfaces (lost only 2 wkts) so why not play an extra bowler!" Edited March 31, 2016 by rett adi B 1
chewy Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 He should have been slogging in PP. He is not the person to pay the anchor role, there is already Rohit and Kohli to do that. Rahane played a selfish innings. Also his lack of power didn't help.
Texan Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 I thought we got a fairly good total. Also, we need to consider Rahane's innings in the context of this tournament. We had terrible starts in every match. Openers not doing anything. Rahane kept rotating the strike and giving Sharma or Kohli the chance to go for their shots. Also, he was playing his first match of the tournament, so hard to just get going. The ball that he got out off would have cleared a shorter fielder.
Ankit_sharma03 Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 whats the fuzz in x-cricket reg rahane in short formats yes he is quality batsman, but in odi n t20 u need diff skill. Even other guys take time but they have the ability to catch up not rahane. N giving the logic that he does well in ipl is so stupid, in Ipl there is only 1 international bowler so ju can target domestic bowlers but that doesnt happen in Int. cricket. Nest t20 Wc we need new openers, start prep Unmukt, Manan, Rishab Pant and other guys enough time wasted on Dhawan, rohit n rahane . Just not ideal t20 openers and certainely not under pressure tweaker 1
chewy Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 Charles and Simmons both going for boundaries, whilst Rahane was busy taking singles and struggling to find boundaries in same period. tweaker 1

He played a decent knock for what he is capable of. I would have actually just replaced Yuvraj with Pandey. Rahane is good in T20s when chasing small totals. Setting a big target is not really his forte. Looks at the other thread where I have asked for sweeping changes in the team. Rahane doesnt figure as my pick, even though I am a bigg supporter of his for Test cricket.
