Asian teams

Such a terrible performance from almost all Asian teams.Imran in 2007 said that test cricket is about talent , technique and temperament , while T20 is about talent  , that's why India and Pakistan did well in that . He was actually wrong T20 is more about power hitting and here superior physique and power of non asian teams are giving them advantage.

Some of our padosi friends can also post here reflecting on their team's performances instead of mere trolling. Will be a good thread.

We failed because the selectors picked a bowling attack more cut out for English Test conditions than T20s in the SC.

Didn't bring any proper spinners and that was our biggest undoing.

Among asian teams India is best but among non asians we only managed to beat Australia which is also not a very good T20 side ,

That's how the tournament is designed... Three Asian teams in the same group.. Had to kill each other's chances to qualify...

Only SL in the other group.. and SL cricket has been going downhill with Mahela and Sanga retiring... It is going to take them a few years to regroup and build a team

The key difference b/w Asian and non-Asian teams is the selection, thinking process and approach .... If you examine the Asian teams, you would find that

  • Their captains created many blunders for e.g. Afridi going in with 4 fast bowlers on spin friendly surface, Dhoni's xyzs, and Mortaza's captaincy vs Aus. SL is not playing good cricket
  • Squad selection was not ideal
  • Persisting with players based on past records

Ind easily beat other Asian teams because some of the weaknesses stated above get neutralized as other Asian team do the same mistakes. With non-Asian teams, those mistakes could prove costly. Teams like NZ try to squeeze in every advantage by playing horses for courses

However, in the past, Asian teams had  quite a few players with talent good enough to win games on their own so could win despite such deficiencies. For e.g. a Yuvi could hit 6 6s to bail you out, a Kohli could play a magical inning to chase down the total, etc.

In short, Asian teams are usually a collection of talented individuals playing together. If these individuals perform, the team performs .... whereas non-Asian teams (not all), relatively have a more scientific approach to cricket and try to play as an unit. Since in T20s there is less time to recover from mistakes, Asian teams have lost out in this competition

You cannot expect BD to qualify , they are still a 1 match wonder outside their home. And a team like New Zealand defeated all asian teams , so you cannot say that Asian teams played well .also from 2010 onwards this will be the 3rd cup that a non Asian team will win , while we all know how much craze is their in Asian countries for LOIs.

The main difference is approach and calibre, which is interrelated ,non Asian teams are filled with power hitters hence fearless approach, while Asian teams look timid at times because of power hitters lack of depth, but the most important thing is outdated vision, Asians go for big names, and have very orthodox style, whereas non Asian teams have unorthodox style, more risk full approach plus more innovation, how many Asian players player 360°shots, or reverse hits as compared to non Asians, how many try to unsettle bowlers none, it's all about innovation and fearlessness and most importantly hunger, though I appreciate kohli, but even he cannot match the power game of likes of Roy, buttler, hales, abdv, gayle, Russell, Sammy, maxwell, warner, finch, anderson, decock to name a few.

The above could be true for England and NZ  but Windies is winning just because of their power hitters , the problem in their board , lack of committment to West indies team and other problems just don't make them superior to thinkiing process or approach. It is just they are blessed with aggressive power hitters and they are doing job for them

The ugly hoicking to 4s & 6s of Colin Munro in power plays in NZ v Eng typies approach of non-Asian sides to this year's World T20.

Asian sides have Dhawan, Rohit, Rahane, Sehzads busy trying to "settle in".

Rahane's lame duck innings cost India 15-20 extra runs.

Even Afg's M. Sehzad played accordingly.

WI was beaten by Afg, while Ind beat Aus which has a powerful hitting line up relative to Ind's  .... It is that many of the non Aisan teams are using their resources smartly. For e.g. NZ is promoting someone like Munro to take advantage of the harder ball and relatively quicker pitch early on

For WI, it has always been a good T20s side esp for its power hitters but it has lost due to these hitters mis-firing too .... And there are always exceptions

Dare I say it the Asian teams have looked very outdated in their approach, like England before the "Great NZ Series Revelation" of 2015. The settling in then hitting out in the later overs with wickets in hand approach is straight out of the Andy Flower limited overs coaching manual!

Exactly. Having the same set of openers and captain in ODIs and T20s means that India is trying to follow the ODI approach in T20s as well. This is utter foolishness, what are India going to do with the 7 wickets they had in the bag?

I doubt how much beneficial was the Asia Cup just before the WC. Does not matter even it was T20 format. Pitches in Bangladeshi were totally different to the WC. Asia cup was treated as a practice tournament but i think it backfired teams like BD, PAK, SL. Most of the players were tired and got hardly any time to adjust. Just take BD. They played Asia Cup final match on 6 march and flew away next morning to Dharmshala and played 1st match in 8/9 march.

I think teams would have been in better position if they had reached India few days early and have a training camp there.

Out of all asian teams, SL performed the worst. The top and middle orders were brittle and the way they played against spin was embarassing. For a country once renowned for fearless batting, it was pathetic to see how they whimpered to mediocre totals collapsing regularly.

Bowling wise,we managed to find an uncut diamond in Vandersay who will hopefully step up his game once old Hera hangs his boots. Malinga is expected to retire from internationals after injuring his knee. Losing both Hera and Malinga in such a short time will have dire repercussions on our bowling. Our fielding has been average for many years. We never take half chances or get direct hits and it hit a new low with our guys dropping two or three dollies.

All in all this was a tourney to forget along with the disastrous asia cup. With dumbass administrators showing no intentions to develop young talent in a competitive domestic structre, SL will struggle for the foreseeable future.

Chameera is shaping up really well for Sri Lanka.  He has pace as well as decent skill.   It is very enjoyable to see him bowl and will lead the SL attack across formats .

Very exciting prospect. Am impressed too. He bowls that quick delivery that often surprises the batsman with the bounce too.

out of 5 asian team that played super 10 (yes I am including Afg here aswell) only 1 made it to semi-final. That Kind of automatically tells you the sorry physical state (power hitting wise) the asian players are at.
