Vivian .... as a commentator??

I don't know about others but I am enjoying his commentary and post match analysis...

I have never seen him bat but heard so much about him from my dad and uncles....

He looks very confident, intuitive, down to earth and appreciative

Is he same during his playing days??

Im enjoying his commentry. Such an honest commentator , unbiased and most importantly he enjoys good cricket. 

He brings a positive vibe to the commentry box filled with idiots like gavaskar, manju, jadeja

Much better than the usual suspects.  Even Jadeja is an upgrade over the likes of Manju and Arun lal.  

 

Viv is brilliant as the Windies Voice from history.  Love listening to his opinions on the game, although they are a little old school and focused on mindset and machismo more than technique.  But nothing wrong with that.  That was his approach and it brought him great success.

The thing i like the most about his commentary is how excited he gets when the batsmen play a great stroke. Safe to say that he LOVES batting no matter who's doing it.

Bish was asking Viv about how he used to play against the spinners.  Whether he used to pick it early from the bowler's hands, and Viv said he couldn't even pick his own nose if he had to.  These insights show the player's perspective instead what the fans see and assume.  He further added that many of the leggies said they didn't know themselves  exactly what the ball was going to do so who is he to assume lol.   Good addition and anecdotes

On the field, he was anything but down to earth. He had that arrogance/swagger that comes from the confidence that he can destroy any bowling attack. He could change the complexion of a match within no time. Off the field, he was soft spoken. I once watched an interview of his and was surprised at how gentle he seemed.

But go beyond stats. There is no man on this earth who dominated a cricket field like Viv Richards.  His very presence coming in to bat could - literally - be frightening to the opposition.  

 

No one today, or even back then, had a presence like his - name any modern player, even SRT. 

 

None of the above is an exaggeration.  I saw it as a fan.

 

It's no wonder Gavaskar is so much in awe of the man.

The only modern day comparison for Viv was how Pakistan fans would feel when Sehwag walking out to bat against their team  - you knew that if you didn't get him out that he was going to murder you.  And you knew that the chances of getting him out cheap were not great.  And he knew it.  He just walked out there like he owned the place.  And most of the times he did.  

 

Add to that he was blessed with a team that had the #1 bowling attack for its time, was the top fielding side and was also stacked with other quality batsmen.

That man had the word- TALENT

The sound when he use to hit the ball with those old bats make u think that this guy was blessed with some special ability.

I've seen him go all the way back to the stumps to a perfect yorker at pace on the middle and writing putting it away on the square leg after making it into a half volley, lol

Viv was such a big personality. He was also a very proud man and used to really be angry at racist putdowns by guys like Tony Greig and would get really fired up. Gavaskar and Imran were similar guys and these guys has real swagger about them. 

 

Look at most of guys in Indian team in videos from old matches and they look so timid and amateurish. Sunny would just stand out with his body language
