Someone mentioned it.  I bet Visa issues were a factor.  FGaandu BCCI.  We don't play too many international T20s as it is.  We need to audition the next keeper and power hitters.

With the team selected, what may be our playing 11  ?

1. Rohit

2. Rahane / Dhawan

3.  Kohli

4.  Rahul

5.  Dhoni

6.  ? ?  Binny ??      SR 120 ( t20I )   130 ( IPL )

7.  Ashwin              SR 103 ( t20I )   96 ( IPL )

8.  Jaddu               SR  88 ( t20I )   121 ( IPL )

9.  Bhuvneshwar

10. Shami

11. Bumrah

It seriously lacks lower order big-hitters....one of the most crucial aspects of  a good T20 side.   SR or strike rates of no.6 to no. 8 are really low. Modern standard for T20 SR,  for no.6 to no. 8 batters. is 140 + ( preferably 150 + ) ...and we have ones between 88 and 130.

Deepak Hooda could have been there.

Even a rookie like Krunal Pandya, who averages 40 and has a SR of 191  from 12 games in the IPL, would have been better than no big-hitters.

IF u have to adjust rahane, then rohit has to go down @ 4,5 or rahane would bat 4. Both seems a problem

Dhawan

Rahane

Kohli

Rahul

Rohit

dhoni

Binny/jadeja

Mishra/Shami ( Incase grounds are smaller leave mishra out)

Ashwin

Bhuvi

Bumrah

This makes batting looks longer and some power in lower order but again Rohit is one of ur best short format batsman. N best batsman have to play more more balls.

Start from Dhawan n rahane wont be gr8 either, even though dhawan n rohit hasnt given some good starts either but atleast if rohit gets set he can make it count rahane on the other hand is complete disastor

Why on earth would u select rahane, as those pitches are slow something that rahane doesnt enjoy at all add to that they have badree, narine and some dibbly dobblers

Players selectors missed out- Pant, unmukt, sarfraz, Hooda, krunal. All the right people for the problem are sitting at home. Yes they might have failed, But rahane n binny would surely fail.

Rahane should stay away from T20s unless he's replacing Dhawan at the top.  I believe he should be opening in ODIs for India.

The more you look at it the more this squad stinks.

Post t20 WC there is a real opportunity to build a fresh dynamic team & try out younger players.

But with Dhoni the same old ageing bums & friends get selected.

Why is Dhoni even there?

I don't understand why selectors select a T20 squad based on ODI mindset and also why include so many seniors in a lollipop t20 series.

These T20 bi-lateral series is perfect time to thrown in youngsters with t20 credentials and new T20 specialists.

It's a fail squad, boring, tried and tested bull crap, seeing likes of Rahane, Dhoni, Dhawan playing in these t20 games tells how retarded selectors are, zero vision, zero balls.

Bad selection n no planning as the selectors have shown throughout their term, No power hitters  at all, why is Mishra, Umesh in the team? Hooda, Sarfaraz, Aaron ,Pandey, Pant should be there on drop in pitches in. US?

Yadav, Binny and Mishra are likely to miss out .... Yadav-Dhoni, we know the story .... Mishra will be seen as a runs leaker (and not a potential wkt taker).... and to play Binny - one of Rahul, Rahane and Dhawan will need to be benched which may not happen

Even in ODIs Dhawan and Rohit are far better than him as openers. They are match winners. Rahane is not.

Always amazes me how BCCI with so many resources and capital recycle the same garbage between all three formats.

whilst likes of Australia, NZ and SA with such limited resources have several specialist players in across all three formats...all comes down to excellent management, administration and vision.

special mention for South Africa, who despite hampered by racial quotas for years (and even more now) continue to be world class in all three formats. Would have been scary if they had no quota restrictions.

If it had not been for Lalit Modi, then Subhash Chandra and Zee would have destroyed BCCI by now. BCCI still run by morons.

I strongly disagree.  Put Amla at #4 in ODIs and see how he does.   Rahane is a class bat and able to hit good balls for 4.  But he's not the power hitter who can excel in the back-end of an ODI innings.

There are more problem to rahane than just power hitting.

  • He doesnt convert his starts in Odi's. Someone like dhoni n kohli manages their innings on single doubles n occasional boundaries.
  • His dot ball % his high, which is in case of rohit n dhawan as well but they do cover it up later
  • Rahane struggles on slow tracks .
