Asim Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 Question is whether current indian batting really better than Pakistani batting in test matches? we generally have an impression of indian batting been much much stronger than Pakistani batting but in recent years stats will show you totally otherwise... Pakistani middle order with the Help of Younis and Misbah doing wayyy better than best of indians like Pujara, Rahane, Kohli etc... Even Pakistani lower middle order Shafique and Sarfraz doing better than indian... You will be surprised to see Sarfraz is doing better than likes of Rahane and Kohli... Here's the statistical comparison for last 3 years with 500 runs as minimum qualification: Only 3 indian batsman in Top 10 as compared to 7 of Pakistan based on last 3 years performances... Younis and Misbah remains clearly ahead of Best of indian test batsmen even if you make a comparison for last 4 or even 5 years...
rkt.india Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 (edited) Yes, Indian batting is still good but not the same as we were with Fab 4. Apart from Kohli, Rahane, and to some extent Vijay even he was dropped, we dont have certainties in playing XI. Everyone is dispensable. Also, Younis is a legend and Misbah too is a veteran now. They certainly are class players. Even at home, batsmen now are guaranteed of scoring big because of the kind of pitches we are making. I dont see any of our current batsmen averaging 50 plus in a long run. Also good batting pitches in UAE have helped Pakistani batsmen while we at home are preparing pitches where teams struggle to score 200. Edited August 27, 2016 by rkt.india tweaker and Singh bling 2
rkt.india Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 Pakistan's selection of batsmen in test cricket has been pretty good too. They went for traditional approach batsmen like Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq rather than flashy players and here our captain is trying to do opposite. Asim and tweaker 2
express bowling Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 (edited) On the face of , it would look that Indian batting has done worse than Pakistan in the last few years. But, a detailed analysis would give a different picture. Indians have prepared low scoring home pitches and this has resulted in the averages of our top batters remaining lower than expected. Pakistani batters have got got much better batting surfaces at " home " UAE. Here is a breakup of batting averages in different countries of the Indian and Pakistani batters. Our top batters have generally done very well in South Africa, Australia, England and New Zealand...where the batting conditions and bowling have stereotypically posed the biggest challenges for Asian batsmen due to bounce or pace or seam movement or swing. express bowling Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 Overall....it must also be said that Pakistani batsmen have done much better as a unit in the last year than people would expect them to do. Some of them have shown grit in England and that deserves to be lauded. tweaker 1
jusarrived Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 Pak batting is basically some oldies and few good players in Asad and Azhar . its decent at the moment , but none of them would make it to the Indian linup . The likes of YK and Misbah are old , can be considered . Azhar and Asad are good , but they are never going to be world class . They are at best ~45 avg batsmen & already at their peak imo . tweaker 1

They went for traditional approach batsmen like Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq rather than flashy players and here our captain is trying to do opposite. Well I think its pretty shortsighted . Pak needs to start investing in younger players soon .
Trichromatic Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 This is the performance of both teams outside India and UAE in last 3 years 4 hours ago, Asim said: Question is whether current indian batting really better than Pakistani batting in test matches? we generally have an impression of indian batting been much much stronger than Pakistani batting but in recent years stats will show you totally otherwise... Asim Posted August 27, 2016 Author Posted August 27, 2016 another factor I've observed (I could be wrong) has been developed in indian batting is performance against spin, their overall quality to play spin has gone much down as compared to past or even just a decade ago... Vilander and tweaker 2

Yes, they started to show signs of that after 2012. This will be crucial for their home series. Most of the batsmen are not good against turning balls nowadays. tweaker 1

In this team, only Vijay and Pujara are good against spin to some extent. They both have long reach and use their feet and also sweep to good effect. tweaker 1

Effect of preparing green pitches to fund trundlers in domestic cricket. That's why the new generation of batsmen are struggling a bit against spin. Also the effect of T20s I guess. The technique is long gone from the game against spin. Edited August 27, 2016 by Adi_91 express bowling 1
WC2011INDIA Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 Sadly, padosi...Get the top order cheaply...the rest will struggle...unless someone down the order plays a magical knock. We survived in WI.
the don Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 Pakistani batsmen are better players of spin in test cricket especially offspin and perhaps swing too . Will see how they do against the bounce in Australia later this year.
Vilander Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 So Pak is better in batting and India is better in bowling for now. Lol Good Thread. velu 1

But pace bowling of two sides are the same age group and more comparable. But anywhoo i think Mizba and Younis have done well for now.
