Didn't anil play with bleeding and same with brett lee..

Amount of excuses they are giving.. Do we see virat leaving it for someone else when he was that set ??? Never did and never should that's the way it should be..

There logic only applies to selective player's i guess..

Talking about back injury.. He even played with pack on his back video is available on youtube and yuvi with cancer in 2011... compared to all these rahul one is nothing...

I was talking in a positive way that it was unfair criticism on dhoni recent form in t20 when this guy was our 2nd best batsman after kohli despite having back issue. So m giving him credit

Well put together...

But Dhoni should not have taken it to the last ball. We all know he is guilty of taking the match till the last over unnecessarily. Played Bravo very lightly and had no intent to hit in the end. He wants to be the hero by taking it till the end and then when this fails he says that it happens sometimes.

YEs he has a habbit, but such giagantic total would have always gone that close. Its not that he didnt try.... he did but at other end their is also player who is playing as one of the best death bowler. So one person cannot always win, other one will have his days. Bravo is an outstanding death over bowler. Rahul n dhoni both tried and didnt succeed, but for me there was an intent in Dhoni's innings yesterday unlike many time beforeee. Had this been an all attempt to take it till last ball i would have understood.

As far as taking bravo lightely, no one would have specially his own captain . It was basically a mind game which in the end bravo won.

guys .. relax

dhoni usually takes the ball till lat over ..

this time dhoni tried taking it till the last ball , but backfired a bit .. :giggle:

That is two out of the last 4 matches he has played where he took the match to the final ball and failed miserably both times.

Manish pandey should given chances and dhoni can phased away. But asking him to retire because of one ball is too much that too in inconsequential match. Dhoni has played a good knock just couldn't finish it off. Happens to the best of them as well. He is still the best.

Sorry to say, but how do you want to boot out India's most successful captain ever?

It is sad to hear such comments. Agree that probably time has come to call it quits, but being phased out will be one heck of an insult to the captain and player he has been.

Tendulkar was phased out. Dont you agree ? He stopped playing against minnow nations. Dhoni is not going to play forever.  I will be sad too if retries countless matches he won and emphasis he lays on fitness is what is driving indian cricket. May be he can give youngsters a chance against minnow nations. Indian cricket cant stop suddenly because dhoni retries we need replacements. Every one should be replaceable.

I think Dhoni can still contribute as a batsman in ODIs  if he bats at no.4.  He has lost his ability to finish consistently but is still playing well till the 45th over or thereabouts.

But, generally speaking, how do you replace superstars who are not performing up to the mark but are not retiring on their own  ?   This has always been a problem in Indian cricket and will continue to be a problem with the next generation of superstars and the next.  If we want to be a professional side then we need to demarcate between showing respect to a super performer of the past and including him in the current team.  The current team should be chosen as per current day ability with an added consideration of developing a couple of players for the future so that the transition process is smooth.

Asian (sub-continent to be precisely) legends always... almost always mistime their retirements... Australians, SA do it at Best possible time...

The latter do so only because they know that their teams do not include honorary membership for past contributions.

Remember even legends like Steve Waugh were shown the gate when their contributions started declining.
