Silva Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 You have to also take into account the fact that he is playing on the same pitches where Jadeja is averaging 15 with the ball. Pitches have gotten a lot more bowler friendly in India. I don't think its possible to maintain an average over 50 unless you take advantage of some flat pitches at home. And I can't remember the last test match in India were it was a batting paradise. I remember back in the day It seemed like every other pitch was a patta where only scoreboard pressure would give you a result but those good old days are long gone. I think you can safely say that pitches in SA new zealand, and australia are easier to bat on than in India. And even in england they arn't that difficult if the ball isn't swinging. kudos for Kohli as captain sacrificing his stats for the better of the team though. gakgupta and express bowling 2

I think we gave up on his batting to early, and he is definitely more than a slogger. I think trying him at 6 would boost his confidence. The guy has some triple centuries, so he has shown the temperament to be a decent bat. Rasgulla 1

Double standards at its best. Ohh did i forget to add great captaincy skills like Rohit baba in vijay and pujara out. What a STRONG captaincy that is.. Any normal person will not select Rohit in the test team. VK has been showing too much love for that one hit wonder. Makes sense, after all Rohit's overall career and VK's domestic test average are very similar after all. Rasgulla 1

He doesn't seem to have the temperament required for certain phases of test matches (most notably 2nd and 3rd innings) 3. He is trying to be over dominant. The fact is that you can't dominate oppositions unless you have the right technique. If he wants to emulate someone like KP, he needs to tighten his basics. Assurance also gives you more freedom and opens up more options of scoring, not just a flick or a cover drive. He has shown multiple times that he has temperament ....but these days, he has become too confident and aggressive....He has limited technique and he is trying to be KP or Viru bhai....which will never work out for him....

putrevus Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 Kohli does not trust his defense enough to play long test innings. He has been too impatient, he needs to calm down and start rotating strike and do exactly what he does in LOIs.Jury is still out on Kohli as a high class test batsman. Unless he improves his record during this home stand, I don't think he will ever reach 50 plus average in tests.Whole team is weak against spin except Vijay and Pujara to some extent. Rahane also need to score humongous runs in this home stand to make sure he is counted as top batsmen in world.
chewy Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 I think Kohli needs to do a Pujara to score run in India, in other words, needs to curb his aggressive game plan on this slow turning tracks...he ain't an ABDV

I don't mind either if he is just in the team for his captaincy, as we have seen time and again how much negative impact a weak captain can have on the team. in this age we cant have a player just for captaincy .. ps:- which age are you talking about ?? somewhere else you said that in this age we have to maintain a SR f 60 in test matches

Trichromatic Posted September 27, 2016 Author Posted September 27, 2016 Kohli's approach is not aggressive rather more ODI type. He plays too many shots for singles. He failed in England for that reason only where he would poke ball outside off. In ODIs this works well for him as he is constantly looking to rotate strike. But in tests he should be more selective. He should go for shots if he wants runs but not for that outside off defense and singles. Even Rohit Shamra, he tried to block a ball which was way outside off and got an edge in 2nd inning. Luckily there was no slip for that. What's the point of playing such shots? I can understand if he was going for a cut and looking to hit boundary. But just blocking the ball at that line doesn't make sense. It's more ODI approach and should be avoided. Murali Vijay does well in this regard. He leaves the ball outside off and whenever he needs runs he will just step out, play a lofted shot for 6 or 4 which is much safer option as he is selecting the delivery to be attacked. rkt.india 1
