He is not the most technically sound out there 2. He doesn't seem to have the temperament required for certain phases of test matches (most notably 2nd and 3rd innings) 3. He is trying to be over dominant. The fact is that you can't dominate oppositions unless you have the right technique. If he wants to emulate someone like KP, he needs to tighten his basics. Assurance also gives you more freedom and opens up more options of scoring, not just a flick or a cover drive. New guy and tweaker 2

He is a very settled test batsman overseas with a batting average of 50.27 in the last 3 years from 21 test matches touring all the strong cricketing nations. This is also the reason for his reputation among foreigners. It is the home tests which has brought down his overall consistency although he has played only 25% of his tests at home in this period. I think he likes the ball to come on to the bat and doing badly in test matches in India is more a mindset issue. This run of 13 test matches is a good opportunity for him to " get used to home conditions " ( oh the irony of that statement ) We are getting very low scoring matches at home in the last 3 or 4 years and there are so few centuries at home from either team compared to earlier years. Kohli has to keep this in mind while approaching home tests. Playing with soft hands while defending ..... leaving goodlength deliveries that are spinning away from the off stump.....cutting out lofted shots in test matches ....are 3 things that may help all our batters in home tests while playing spin. It is not as easy for an Asian to do well even on flatter pitches in Australia as it is for an Australian or Saffer ...because of the bounce. The difference btw Australia and SA is movement .Only ones who usually struggle against short balls struggle in Australia .Kohli is comfortably our best player against short balls . Our batsmen since 2004 have always done well in Australia except in 2012 when for once there was seam movement .Because over the last decade we have really improved against short pitch bowling . The pitches we played in last tour were absolute roads apart from Brisbane.

It doesn't change the fact the pitches in Australia were flat for our tour (apart from Brisbane ) or they were roads when SA toured Australia or that they were for the first two tests against Kiwis last year. Australia currently has the worst road pitches in test cricket .

That is what I am saying....for foreign players apart from SA, handling pace and bounce is a tall task by itself and deserves credit ....which the stats I have posted above suggests. What is a road for an Australian or a Saffer is much more challenging for others. The pace of the Australian bowlers adds to these bouncy wickets.
