Forgotten meaning of Powerplay: 1st 10 over costing us games for some time now.

Yes I have been saying this for a while. Rahane opening is NOT working. His strike rate in the 50s just not good enough for an opener. This old strategy of saving wicket and hit later doesn't work.

We need Lokesh Rahul.

^ That's true that openers can relax, but this issue is not isolated to this match. RS and AR are very slow openers in general.

And yes, I am one of those who has been blaming MSD tuk tuk tuk lunge approach for this match.

Even dhawan has been slow on many occasions. When dhawan n rohit bat together they dont rotate much. The thing is we get so happy with Patta perfomances in Australia that we forget what happened in Wct20.

IF a Batting order has to look dangerous it has to start from top only. Its not only batting i also pointed how bhuvi's failure with new ball affected us in last 2 yrs.

So 1st 10 overs of each innings matter a lot

The same rookie Santner destroyed us in T20 WC,

The Same rookie made the god like batsman look foolish with a new ball

Yes dhoni didnt perform upto the mark , mess up is a huge word

Again its not about this match, its been a while since we are not getting good opening partnership or fiery starts. It happens only in case of Patta's

Southhee and boult on tricky pitch what asst they had from the pitch....... kotla pitch only gets tricky with old ball as it slow down.

N again I have written in topic - For sometime now means this has been bugging us for a while not only this match.

Ah ok.... Ab aaya oonth pahaad ke nicheey...now I think I know where this is headed

point 1 I never said santner is a bad bowler.... I said he is a rookie bowler....major difference.

point 2- he got Rohit Sharma out in wt20...ok good for him I guess....the picture you posted shows Rohit getting out trying to attack him and treating him like the newbie santner was at that time...aren't you complaining that our openers are not "aggressive" enough??? Hardly the first time in the history of cricket a batsman was out trying to attack a spinner is it?...Anyway that's not the point I think you are trying to make...I believe you want to absolve dhoni of his sad and pathetic innings today so let's move on to the next point

point 3-you just made a case by bringing up that wt20 Match on a tricky pitch which exactly proves the point everyone is trying to make that over attacking or throwing early wickets can be a disaster on such pitches.

point 4- was this a tricky pitch for spinners or seamers?  Because if dhoni was playing out santner in that case so fair enough....what about southee?

point 5- what about devichch etc?

point 6- when dhoni came on rrr was hardly 5...so the opening partnership hardly did the damage even though I will say it loud Rahane played a bad knock and Rohit had a rare failure....don't get hung up on that rare failure part...let us move on to the main point

point 7- dhoni's claim is that he is an aggressive lower order power hitter and a finisher...clearly he is not able to finish games recently so what about the power hitting aspect?

Point 8- Jadhav was bullying the spinners and part timers where dhoni was blocking...is he the tail in a test match?

conclusion- dhoni has lost 2nd in 3 Loi games and many more before that...he is done and has become a liability...time to say thank you for the service and give him a watch like most public organizations do...since bcci is filthy rich maybe a rolex watch but he is done and if he continues he will lose more games for us.

So moral of this thread...attack world class bowlers like Southee and Boult on a tricky pitch when they are bowlign with the new ball but play safe and consolidate against the parttimers and spinners especially in case of Santner who is a rookie upcoming spinner

Dhoni was clueless against Santner so the ball was spinning? He was made to look ordinary against Southee...must be a green track?

The fact is he messed up...period.

Apply the same logic when the tests are playedbnext series.

southee and boult maybe world class bowlers for many players ..

but the way MSD treated bowlers like steyn before , i dont bet against dhoni in the death overs..

and people are talking as if we were chasing 50 in the last 5 overs :giggle: and msd messed it

How many runs you score in power plays doesn't matter if you are chasing a paltry scores like 250. At one stage all we needed was 5 runs an over. If you can't get that, then you are worthless to continue as a player, especially when you are the most experienced player of the team.

I am waiting for 10 threads to open for blaming 10 players except the most experienced player who is also the captain who will be defended to death

You do not need to be a rocket scientist to know that when chasing 240, you DO NOT need to score at 6 an over in the first 10. That is the one time openers can relax. This is an extremely dishonest thread made only to defend one player. Who on earth blames first 10 over when chasing 240 in modern ODI?

Is the OP talking only about this match ?

Opening is a genuine concern .

In last 15-20 ODIs -

what is the first 10 overs score for India and the opposition team in the same match.

Match-by-match - just first 10 overs comparison.
