I think he has, but I want to recollect the names. I don't consider the pitches we played on in SL as designer. They helped spin a fair amount but were not raging turners IMO. He played well there, even against a champion player of spin like Sangakkara.

Sangakarra was finished in 2015 , that was last leg of his career. Rest of lankan team hardly had any good players of spin
mancalledsting Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 England can't play spin well- see last match against Bangladesh. Wicket was flat, England had best of batting conditions and we dropped many catches. Also, we have injuries to Bhuvi, Rahul and Rohit. Vilander 1
G_B_ Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Well atleast with the bat Ash is more than making up. came in at a time when India were reeling, stabilized the innings.
putrevus Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Pitch did not look flat when they were bowling in second innings, I can understand first innings but second innings is absolutely worrisome. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
fineleg Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 On day 3 , 4 and 5 - the England spinners showed more wile and guile than Indian spinners. That's the concern. Not just wickets, just accuracy and wile & guile was better by English spinners.

Rest of lankan team hardly had any good players of spin I mean he averaged over 70 in 2014 and averaged over 40 in 2015, despite Ashwin destroying him, including a double century in Wellington, but fair enough about the other Lankans. Day 5 can be excused for the reasons: we were bowling defensive on purpose, slow down the rr, get some time off etc. Let's wait till 2 more tests before we start writing eulogies for Ashwins career. This is the same guy who dominated Williamson one of the best players in the world just a month ago. Edited November 13, 2016 by laaloo
Texan Posted November 13, 2016 Author Posted November 13, 2016 Ashwin is more a batting allrounder than a bowling allrounder when we play England. Jimmy Cliff and G_B_ 2
Vilander Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 they are a rubbish side, they are going to get schooled next game.

express bowling Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 This pitch had quite a bit of turn and bounce on the 4th and 5th day. The English spinners looked dangerous during that time. Why did our spinners look so fang-less during those 2 days ?

fineleg Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Yea, they are not rubbish at all. Very good side.

That and need to plan against English batting line-up which no one seems to have done due to Diwali celebrations and what not. what is genuinely good ?
