With Hardik and Rohit both out due to injury and poor form of Rahane and Pandey, there could 4 spots up for grabs in our playing XI in the next series. Also Jadeja and Ashwin back in contention means that Axar Patel and Mishra might have to take a backseat. Our pacebowling lineup looks pretty settled right now.

Personally, I'd still persist with Pandey and perhaps give Ashwin and Mishra as the main spinners role. As much as I like Jadeja, I think Axar should be ahead due to his superior batting if we are playing with five bowlers. Maybe Rishabh Pant as a opener? It's hard to think of XI right now.

If Rohit, dhawan and Hardik are not back then Rishabh Pant should be tried as an opener. I have doubts on KL's fitness but let's see.

The sight of three spinners and 1 part timer (jadhav) should scare half of the england side. Only Buttler, Root and Ali are capable of playing the spinners.

Dhawan will be back. Rohit is unlikely. Pandya is suspect too. He anyway wont play with Shami, BK, Bumrah playing as 3 pacers. Umesh Yadav in extra. Pandya has a shoulder fracture. Sidelines for 6 weeks.

Pandya will occupy the all-rounder's slot and won't compete with those 3 if he is fit.

He batted at No.8 in the last NZ series, when we played 3 seamers an 2 spinners.

I would really like to see how the team does without Dhoni. If we do well then MSD should retire. No point in hogging a spot like the glorified others. Also pant would get direct entry as a wk because saha and pappu are not fit for odis. Like the test team reinvented itself after MS retired the odi team also will do. The team gets too relaxed with Ms in squad and then starts losing and the blame goes to Ms. I remember 2 series were Ms didn't play and we won 5-0. Maybe we will win 3-0 too. At least there will be no emotional baggage for me as bhuvi and Ms both won't play and I can actually enjoy and participate on ADF rather than getting irritated and tearing my hair out.

Dhoni.But I still think he is the best Wk/bat in LOIs in India.

The recovery time is atleast 6 weeks.   There won't be any domestics to play after his return and before the ODI series vs England.  He may play the Irani Cup starting 18th Jan though and then play the T20Is.

 

It is a hairline fracture....lets see what happens.  There is a bit of chance of him being ready for the ODIs.

Some decisons that should be made- 

 

1. Last chance - Raina,Pandey,Shikhar (Pandey if he fails again well go back to domestic, other two play domestic and concentrate on ipl)

2. Tough calls- Permanent dumping of Mishra, Jadhav and Dhawal. Sorry guys u have done well but u dont have any future so dont stop any youngsters place. If after yuears u cant earn a permanent spot in side well accept ur issues and move on. Rahane should also be dropped but i dnt want him to throw him forever, his problem isnt that big.

3. Rest- Kohli, Ashwin, Shami, Umesh. This Side has to learn to win without Kohli

4. Rewarding Domestic perfomances but also introducing right players- 

• Deepak hooda- Incase pandey fails need some backup and he can bowl a bit
• Yuzi- Did well on Ind-A tour, Has taken wkts in ranji, does well in chinnaswamy in ipl. Forgot sake give him chance he ll improve and he has some future. Whereas Mishra has no future , is a liability on field and still doesnt have the attitude to be the main bowler after so much exp. 
• Kuldeep- Has taken wkts in ranji and adds some mystery to the attack. Also can bat a bit
• Pant- The X-factor we need at top
• Rajpoot- I really feel he would be a good Odi bowler, can take wkts with new ball and keep it tight. Also has pace and brains
