_ramkumar Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 L&T to build world's biggest cricket stadium at Motera Quote The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) came a step closer to make Sardar Patel Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad the biggest stadium in the world in terms of seating capacity when on Thursday it handed the contract to Larsen & Turbo (L&T) to begin work for the makeover. GCA vice-president and Reliance Industries president Parimal Nathwani gave a letter of acceptance to L&T top officials in presence of key GCA officials. A dream project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi under the leadership of GCA president Amit Shah, the old structure had already been razed and work will now begin to build a new stadium which can accommodate 1,10,000 people, the biggest in terms of seating capacity .With this, the new Motera Stadium will surpass the humongous Melbourne Cricket Ground in Austraia which can hold 100,024 people. “The ground is ready to be handed over to the construction company,“ a GCA press release said. A GCA press release said: “The ground is ready to be handed over to the construction company. The new stadium, when completed, will be the largest cricket stadium in the world which will be made to meet all the latest international standards.“ The new stadium will have improved infrastructure for spectators with an increase in the number of air-conditioned boxes and up-gradation of parking facilities. The entry, stay and exit processes will be smoothed and emphasis will be given to facilitate guided tours of the cricket museum. Other facilities like eateries, fan-zones and washrooms will be of top quality. “In the next two years, the new structure will be ready,“ GCA secretary Rajesh Patel told TOI. Previously, the stadium with its six pavilions had a capacity of 54,000. 2000-2010-2016 2 2018? tweaker 1

I think its a problem in places like SL, Bang, NZ. Western India - Gujarat, Bombay etc has a very well defined "rainy season" and that's during "off-season" or touring season for the Indian cricket team. maniac and Ironhide 2

But seriously, spend money on the capacity but don't know why not a dome stadium.
cowboysfan Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 They need to replace Chinnaswamy, cant believe Bangalore is still stuck with such a small stadium. tweaker 1
kosingh Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 110k? What's the point, if they are never going to fill it up. Eden Gardens, Wankhade and all have become smaller over the years in terms of capacity, but Sardar Patel wants to be the biggest in the world. Mosher, _ramkumar and Soorma_Bhopali 3

Its better to build smaller stadiums with the best of facilities than waste money on a large stadium which will struggle to fill up. kosingh and express bowling 2
kosingh Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 40,000 people in a stadium that holds 50,000 looks a lot better than 40,000 in a stadium that holds 70,000. Something about diminishing returns.
