KL Rahul another show pony who is a poor fielder

Young players in the Indian team and even the upcoming ones are all pretty good athletes bar say Ashwin or Shami. Even the fast bowlers like Umesh etc are pretty good in the field.

They can pull of and pluck these superb catches, they are quick and have sharp arm from the outfield, but what I have noticed with Rahul is while he is naturally athletic....the attitude he portrays on the field like he is some 2nd coming of Rhodes/Ponting but he is a very poor fielder....He is not a Munaf who was a poor fielder+poor athlete but strangely his fielding is sub-par.

Have seen him drop catches and lack basic timing of his jumps to pull of good catches...It is time he stops concentrating on styles/attirude and concentrate on his fielding.

He is a decent batsman but a ridiculously poor catcher. Those many missed catches are not excusable even if you were batting at the level of Sachin Tendulkar. Seriously needs to pull up his socks or sent back to domestics.

He is taking things a bit too casually  after the WI tour.

I would say after IPL success... when people were thinking he was a Test player.

Somewhere deep down he probably thinks breaking into the ODI or T20 side as a regular is an easy option, so tests take a back seat

That drop catch a few months ago where his hair got in the way left a bad impression. He seemed so goody-goody when he first came. Somewhere along the way he thought he was a hot model or something. Which is ridiculous given that he doesnt exactly have drop dead good looks or bucketloads of charisma

Focus on the cricket, kid. You are more Jayawardane than Imran Khan.

Lol that is funny but seriously India has lot of problems when it comes to getting field set right, thanks to some lazy fielders and players regularly missing test matches die to injuries.

Our fielding unit is brilliant inODI's but it is test matches where when slip cordon comes into play etc, we tend to look average.

I feel after a good IPL performance and that t20 knock in USA, he's become careless and over confident

Just needs to be little more conservative when playing shots. He needs to give himself some time. Should continue to play his natural game but more straight bat shots until he has hit few fifties and gained back confidence. Best one can do when constantly getting out early.

Interesting comments on Cricinfo:

Unless Rahul compensates with at least a 100, he should be dropped from the team along with Nair for foreseeable future. They just don't seem to belong at this level.

KL Rahul is fast becoming a burden to the team. Can't bat, can't field and gets injured at the drop of a hat, following the footsteps of Gambhir and Dhawan, whom he replaced. If he doesn't score in this match, he should be dropped.

Currently the best WK keeper-batsman we have. With Kumble's and Kohli's backing he seems a little arrogant, but it shouldn't come at the cost of on-field performance. Still many times better than what ladlaa Dhoni brings to the table.

Problem is that he is not keeping regularly. Surely looks better bat than Dhoni in test. He needs to just make it count as he looks too good a player to miss out and not convert into big ones so many times.

Also realistically, if he is opening, I don't think he is ever going to keep for India in test match for a longer period.
