express bowling Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 Kapil was sharp from 1978 to 1985. Had a good bouncer too. We can see this in this video.

Trichromatic Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 Earlier bowlers used to be very side on?

MCcricket Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 His run up was very smooth n graceful, action natural n raw, pace was decent, we don't know how attacking capt were with his bowling and if they knew how to place fielders to a pacer then, Kapil Dev n Zaidi would have been a great combo. tweaker 1

vvvslaxman Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 He is the most accurate fast bowler India has ever produced. He could pitch ball after ball at the same spot. tweaker 1

Kapil was the lone quality seam bowler in the team. That means there were other bowling spots too in the team. And Shekhar when first came into scene , Kapil would most probably have been a new comer with at the most a few years of experience. How can such a player influence another player getting into the team? Doesn't make sense. tweaker 1

Kapil became the captain of India in late 1982...Sekhar debuted for India in early 1983, played 2 tests and was never chosen again. Whether Kapil influenced his exclusion or not, we may never know but he was in a position of power to do so if he wanted. tweaker and MCcricket 2
putrevus Posted December 23, 2016 Posted December 23, 2016 TA Sekhar never played under Kapil, he debuted under Gavaskar and played two tests in Pakistan on pitches which were roads, he was a victim of lack of support system. BCCI had no clue how to help fast bowlers and players then, it is a big wonder on how Kapil developed himself pretty on his own and his Coach. If MRF existed then Sekhar would have played lot more for India.

They did not name Kapil but I read in a few places and from ex players what went against him is he was called fast or India's fastest that time n the bowler in the Indian team did not quite like that , so the finger is pointing towards Kapil? express bowling 1

Sekhar was called the fastest bowler in the world in 1983 ( keeping in mind the West Indian quicks ) . Whether that is true or not, he was surely a genuinely quick bowler at that time. I too read articles which alluded to the fact that Kapil, who was the captain then and soon won the World Cup too, did not like this tag and focus on another pacer. I don't know whether it is true or not but the possibility cannot be ruled out. In the late '80s Kapil made discouraging comments towards Rajdan and Ankola, 2 other quick bowers who played for India. Later on. in the early '90s, Kapil was more supportive of medium-pacer Prasad rather than fast bowler Srinath. Thus...the rumour has grown that Kapil did not like other fast bowlers. Don't know whether it is true or not. Edited December 23, 2016 by express bowling

Don't know whether it is true or not. Kapil did not actively play politics...the accusation against him was that despite being a legend and senior,he never took any bowler under his wings or groomed them like Imran Khan did with Wasim,Waqar,Aquib. He was just one of those natural prima donna personalities that cared about himself than becoming a mentor. Ankola from what I saw had pace but not the stamina...much like the Pakistani bowlers these days who are quick in the first spell but go from 85-65 very fast. Actually Srinath too in the beginning was not great on stamina but he was clearly head and shoulders above everyone else like Razdan,Ankola etc etc in the raw pace department and credit to him for improving himself on his own.
putrevus Posted December 23, 2016 Posted December 23, 2016 ^^ that is utter nonsense, if the bowlers did not have talent to succeed how the heck it is Kapil's fault. Srinath did the mentoring role what happened, did India get any great fast bowlers due to that,Zak was doing mentoring to Ishant Sharma and co how did they end up. Srinath was huffing and puffing after initial spells and it took long time for him to develop stamina to bowl all day and he was vegetarian and stamina was his problem. Waqar and Wasim had so much talent and pace that they were bound to succeed whether Imran was there or not, if Imran was so great in mentoring why did Tahir Naqqash, Jalaluddin who took an hattrick in odi fail then. They came way before Ws came into scene.
