Even the usually circumspect England have picked a dynamite LOI side with new age players whereas we continue to cling on to gaye guzre players and strategies. It is always self above team interests. Both Dhoni and Yuvraj i dont think Ind loi side is something that has a good middle or lower middle order. They cant turn matches around or hit big..

Very ordinary test captain, and not good enough. Whether he hung on because of selfish reasons, or because the next guy wasn't deemed ready by BCCI is debatable. Judging intent based on limited information we have available to us, as fans, is always dicey. Lack of viable options was not the reason. One of the selection committees, led by Amarnath, was about to remove Dhoni as test captain, when Srinivasan walked in the meeting and intervened. The result was Amarnath being removed as a selector and Dhoni continuing as captain. This incident shows that the selection committee had some candidate in mind and wanted a new captain. Dhoni himself became test captain only 3 years after his test debut. There have been quite a few cases of successful captains becoming so a short period after debut. kosingh Posted January 14, 2017 Posted January 14, 2017 Split captaincy may not work when the newer captain on the block is a massive star. A transition is helpful, but once the new captain has settled into the leadership role, give him the role in all formats. This is exactly what has happened. Even when a high stature captain is given control of all formats, he may burn out faster as captain. Like happened to Dhoni. His test captaincy towards the end had become atrocious. The enormous pressure got to captain cool. Overly defensive, mind boggling field placings, puzzling team selections, having spinners bowl darts down legside for long periods of time...

I don't think most people have criticized Dhoni's inclusion in the team as a player till now. He has been the best keeper-batsman India has ever produced and the best ODI finisher the world has ever produced ( till his decline as a finisher in the last 2 years which happens to everybody at some point in time and so perfectly acceptable ) Criticism has been regarding his captaincy in the last few years, especially as a test captain....and that is backed by facts....don't see any problem with that. express bowling Posted January 14, 2017 Posted January 14, 2017 Split captaincy is a good idea in my opinion, especially during the transition phase of a new captain. Even otherwise, with so much cricket going on, it may help prevent burnout of captains. GoldenSun and King Tendulkar 2
jf1gp_1 Posted January 14, 2017 Posted January 14, 2017 There is a scene in Dhoni movie; he walks into a room and some channel is broadcasting a piece on Dhoni-Sehwag fall out. He just walks away with smirk on his face. He would do the same if he read this thread. Shunya, GoldenSun, Cricketics and 1 other 4

Cricket forums are for discussing cricket related topics, both past and present. People still discuss about Gavaskar, Kapil, Richards, Marshall etc. In fact, not discussing about the past is the easiest way to forget cricketers of the past and not really warranted. We should strongly discourage personal attacks towards our national cricketers that are not based on facts. Completely out of topic negative references should also be avoided. But, this topic is about Dhoni's opinion on captaincy....and this interview is a very recent one. When one expresses his views on captaincy then what he himself did as a captain will also be discussed and it is perfectly on topic. What I don't support is references to Dhoni's captaincy every time Kohli does well. That is unnecessarily digging up the past and no really on topic. Any good discussion should be able to accommodate fact based positive and negative points that are on topic. Mosher and Bigg Brother 2

I am also a lurker like you who shared my opinion on other's opinion that we need to move on. Both points are valid - others opinion about Dhoni, and my opinion about other's opinion on Dhoni.:)

The honourable and dignified dhoni who resigns and plays for best welfare of his country and has our test team humiliated under his captaincy . So selection committte rightly said sack him .
