This was Congress and DMK's fault not BJPs.

Andra can conduct Jallikattu but we will be threatened with dissolution of Assembly by BJP MP.Thats also Congress fault?

And this backlash isnt just against Center Govt but State GOvt too.The can now pass the ordinance but wont before Pongal? .It goes for other political parties like DMK too.

There has to be some self critical recourse in vernacular media after this dies down, the point is if studbook and gene safe is the key then have a bull show or a controlled bull fight not some free for all nasty bull gore. Why did we allow the ancient Jallikattu degrade to a point where peta could trade its arms on it ? i dont see that side being explored in the current euphoria of victory over SC. I expect rational self criticism to take over after the current jingoism dies down like it always does in TN.

There is a 77 point guideline established after 2012 SC order to regulate Jallikattu.Think if implemented properly ,it's enough .

Ultimately Jallikattu is a dangerous sport , there is always the possibility people will die on rare occasions that's unfortunately part of the way .It's not like any one is being forced so that should never be the justification fot stopping it.

There should be regulation definitely but the blanket ban is what really triggered the anger.

With the decks getting cleared for the bull taming festival of Jallikattuin neighbouring Tamil Nadu, there is a growing chorus for organising Kambala, a traditional annual buffalo race in marshy fields, held in the coastal districts of Karnataka.

Spurred by the Jallikattu agitation in Tamil Nadu, Kambala committees have decided to meet in Mangaluru on Sunday to strategise their agitation.

"By coming Wednesday or Thursday we are also planning an agitation in this region. By organising a large-scale agitation in Mangaluru we want to attract the attention of politicians and the whole nation."

"Kambala lovers from Udupi and Mangaluru regions and 150-200 pairs of buffaloes will participate in it," Kamabala committee president Ashok Rai said.

He said "when Jallikattu has got permission, Kambala should also get it, because no violence is involved in it. It is part of our cultural heritage."

Karnataka high court's division bench, headed by Chief Justice S K Mukherjee in an interim order in November 2016 had stayed holding of Kambala on a petition by PETA challenging it in view of orders passed by the Supreme Court on Jallikattu.

Kambala committees have filed an interim application, seeking vacation of the stay.

The matter came up yesterday before the division bench of the high court, which adjourned the case to January 30.

"Kambala has been disrupted because of PETA's ill intentions. We have faith that we will get legal victory also. There is lot of difference between Kambala and Jallikattu," P R Shetty, member of Kambala committee said.

Support for Kambala, a folk sport, has gained momentum in the social media also.

The ban has sparked a debate on whether the event amounts to cruelty to animals or it was just a simple rural sport, which involves racing of buffaloes in paddy fields filled with slush and mud that draws a large number of people.

Kambla in its traditional form is non-competitive with buffalo pairs made to race one after another in paddy fields, which is considered a thanksgiving to the Gods for protecting the animals from diseases.

Over the years, it has however become an organised sport with animal rights activists claiming that the buffaloes run in the race due to fear of being beaten, which the organisers dismiss, saying no violence is involved and that several modifications had been made to ensure that it is an animal friendly event.

More attempts at cultural genocide. Locals need to continue protesting these charlatans.

Best consequence of all this is the growing awareness among people about the malpractices of foreign funded NGOs.

I do not want to comment on Jallikattu. However, PETA, if only they spent as much $ on the welfare of animals as they did on litigation, I'd take them a tad bit more seriously.

All I see them do is having a campaign of celebrities posing nude, or having activists throw ink on celebrities wearing fur. waste junta.

That's sad. Hopefully the miscreants are flushed out by the law and order forces. Too many subversive forces in our country atm.

Yep now Raghava Lawrence confirming the same.

Students have disbursed but as expected the miscreants trying to make use of this for their gain.

Should have concluded the protests yesterday after the ordinance in hindsight still a great success .Slightly soared by these people.

People like Pala.Nedumaran Seemam and other Tamil nationalists should never be allowed to be part of any protests .They always try to turn it into their agenda .Did the same in SriLankan and fishermen protests too.
