MechEng Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 The simulation theory is really interesting: http://www.theverge.com/2016/6/2/11837874/elon-musk-says-odds-living-in-simulation Now how is this related to mythologies of ancient world on may ask? If the simulation theory is true then it is possible that we humans are actually living in a simulated reality of another advanced civilization from the past. Even the brightest minds on this earth cannot perceive reality consciously beyond the simulation unless he/she goes into very deep meditation. Consider a scenario 8000 years from now when flesh and bone humans cease to exist and the world is run by fully conscious grease-oil-steel AI robots who are the new 'humans', and for them people like Gandhi, Mandela, Einstein are all mythological beings since their activities don't resonate with their(robots) perception of reality, just like how we consider Hindu, Greek, Viking and Mayan stories as mythologies. The stone age hunter-gatherer humans might be the first generation humans created by an advanced civilization of past just like how we created first generation AI ASIMO robot and AIBO dog. And we humans of now are sophisticated self evolved versions of those stone age men. Tibarn 1
punjabi_khota Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 One question still remains though : who is your supplier and what strain are smoking? Gambit, velu, BeautifulGame and 1 other 4

Lol no, it's not even that complicated to understand that you need to get high. But it's very very interesting if the theory is true!

If we are living in reality, i don't see why future AI would be compelled to 'recreate us' as a simulation unless they are THAT bored. If we are living in a simulation, what any further simulated beings think/do is irrelevant, since then future AI too would be a simulation. But there still is no evidence of it. I think what is most intriguing, is the concept of humanoid robots. Ie, 'Cylons' from the new Battlestar Galactica. If you think about it, it makes ultimate sense : a sort of 'augmented' humanoid, who is physically perfect/has titanium incorporated bones, etc. but some sort of a 'transmitter organ' in the brain, that transmits all concious content of the brain to a central base, where it is then downloaded into perfectly cloned bodies : you become 'unkillable' as 'death triggers transmission' but you retain all your human senses. Depending on the cloning system, you can 'pick an age you want to be, when you come back to life' and be perma-young.
sandeep Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 Banjo only a bhakt can see Ramayan Mahabharat in this story about Elon Musk's bathtub farts.

He can construe a number of scientific principles to help make his argument, such as Susskind's Holographic principle, the multiverse theory, the expansion-contraction theory of the universe, as well as aspects of Cell/Microbial biology and neurology. It's interesting to think about none-the-less.

I'll watch them again. Tibarn 1

I guess I should check them out as well. MechEng 1
rkt.india Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 one thing boggles me, how are Ramayana is so geographically correct when if it is just a fantasy?

Also the details of the construction of Ram Satu To be able to do that without google search in that time (and when the region is not known for its record keeping), along with the fact that it was relatively hard to travel in those days or get access to expert knowledge As Holmes would deduce and say .... When was Ramayan written? Did people at that time even know about such small places to write fiction. They might or might not. It is still mind boggling to do that thousands of years back.

You didn't get the point of the OP, stories like Ramayan, Mahabharat, Viking legends( Thor, Loki) and other stories from ancient civilizations are deemed as works of fiction, because these stories talk of things which are not possible from the perspective of empirical science. Now according to simulation theory it is possible that we are inside a sophisticated simulation created by great minds of the ancient era, which is why we cannot understand the stuff they did. A fully evolved AI humanoid can do mechanical tasks much better than a fully evolved human but still can never achieve the overall intellectual/spiritual perfection of humans because they are living inside a simulation created by humans. I might sound like David Icke right now but you never know, if you told a guy from 1300s about self driven chariots and journey to moon, he would think you're crazy! Bottomline is simulation "theory" has nothing to do with myths, and specifically Indian myths. But comic book fans love and get off on this sort of fantasy mental masturbation. I get it. But let's not use words like "proof". And I admire Elon Musk a lot. But there's nothing ground-breaking about what he's talking about. Indian seekers have insisted for eons and millenia that our world is an illusion "maya jaal". And there's just about enough proof for what they say, vs what Elon is saying. Diddly squat.
