Exactly. Instead of doing same processes, the whole idea was to take the opportunity to do something different. Not going with 3 spinners was good.

How could you drop a player who has scored a 300 in his last innings. Kohli had different yardstick for different player. He dropped Pujara to keep Rohit in the squad Playing three seamers is a decision still needs some validation. But the thought process is refreshing he has no set playing eleven.Dhoni was so reluctant to change even in dead matches in series already lost. Selecting Pandya would be travesty given his performance in FC. Test caps should be earned not gifted. Pandya needs at least one solid season in FC where he does something with either bat or ball. People here are in love with Pandya solely based on speedgun readings, there is absolutely no logical reason. Heck BK is as good a test bat maniac 1

If that is the case then Pandya should not be in the test squad in the first place. But that is perhaps not the case. The team management had clearly said in an earlier interview that they have plans to play Pandya in test matches outside Asia. His FC stats don't reflect his current ability with the ball. He has become a much improved bowler in the last 6 months or so. He did well especially with the ball and also with the bat in the " Unofficial test matches " he played for the A team in Australia. I was happy to see Pandya playing with a straight bat and playing very differently to the manner he does in LOIs. The need to play him arises because of the above reason. If he is in the plans of the team management then there is no better place or time to field him than a test against Bangladesh being played at home.

Pandya could have been eased into test cricket and he is a bounce bowler like Ishant, so could have been a similar replacement. Edited February 9, 2017 by express bowling tweaker 1
King Tendulkar Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 In theory we have picked perfect 3 man pace attack ishant provides height and bounce bk swing and seam yadav raw pace only in theory though Sidhoni and Lord 2

I disagree there are no first class matches going on so he will learn more from staying with Indian team. If FC season was going on and he was just riding the bench then it would be a waste.I am not against him playing test cricket but he has not shown any ability with either ball or bat in FC.He did very well on India A tours that is more the reason why he needs to play more FC cricket. Playing tests without at least one season in FC should be stopped.India has lost too many fast bowlers who were fast tracked without learning anything in FC. Pandya will become an important cog once Indian team starts playing overseas and it is very important for him to get accustomed to bowling 40 to 45 overs in a match. Taskin he simply ran out of gas with second new ball and the same thing has happened to many Indian fast bowlers when playing away from home.

But it is not true that he has not played even 1 FC season....he has already played 16 FC games spanning 4 FC seasons and missed a large part of the last season as he was with our national team. Sadly, there are no FC matches till the next A tour maybe 5 months later. ( He will play a 2-day practice match against Australia after a few days which is not a FC match technically ) So, I felt that a test against Bangladesh would have helped his development process. He could easily have been the 5th bowler and 8th batsman in this match and Jayant Yadav could have replaced him in the series against Australia. It is more important that he is allowed to play the 4-day and 5-day matches on the next A-tour and in the next Ranji season, even if it means missing a few LOIs. Potential, sure Pandya might have all the raw ingredients but still not a finished product.

See the fact that he just played 16 games in 4 seasons is a red flag and shows he has a long way to go in becoming a test caliber player.I did not know he made his FC debut in 2013 . There is no point in playing one match and then making him ride bench again, he is better off practicing with the team.He will get his chances when India tours again till then let him develop.Learning under Kumble has immense value which will help him a lot in his future.

We have to look at his transformation as a bowler in the last 5 months. He has been bowling consistently in good areas with bounce, seam movement and pace. He has become a regular for various A teams in the longer formats in this period and that also speaks volumes about his improvement and what Dravid and Kumble think about him now. tweaker 1

What you said is very true.My point is why hurry in giving him debut for one match and make him sit again, unlike Nair who is season FC pro it would hurt Pandya more if he fails one match and then sits again.
fineleg Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Ticz' will defend all of VK decisions, what's new? Its dumb to drop Jayant Yadav. (Regarding Rahane - it was 100% clear he will come back into the 11) Nothing "dauntless" - is that a word - "dauntless"? Sidhoni 1

Na, I will give Kumble credit the day Kohli does not declare on time. I know more than Kohli, it would have been Kumble then who would have let the declaration on hold.

Kapil was blamed and not Sachin in that infamous newzealand game. again Dravid went behind the coach in that infamous Sachin declaration. usually it's the coaches call and with a big presence like jumbo he is calling the shots.
