Smith is "RATTLED"

As an aussie i expected a whitewash, a dour performance and overall decimation and underperforming in general.

In truth the aussies have battled hard against a superior side away from home. Arguably performed much better with more conviction.

"Smith is rattled" is an ignorant statement unless he and the team stop playing in the same manner. Being beaten in those circumstances hardly means much.

If you want to see what rattled looks like. Maybe its actually kohli more so than smith.

You have a point about VK.  As much as the coverage is about how sledging "doesn't work with VK", reality is that it actually does affect him.  And No, it doesn't always make him perform better.  I posted about this even before the series started here.

Rattled seems like an appropriate word. Him trying to deflect blame and throwing his teammates Handscomb and Marsh under the bus are pretty strong signs that suggest he may be rattled. Got him on the back food, time for the screeching yorker.

I may have misunderstood what i have heard in regards to handscomb. I know enough about the marsh incident to know that i dont have a clue whos telling the truth... "go" is quite clearly the wrong term to use in that circumstance if you want him to review.

I think i just found the title choice ironic and my bias likely kicked in.

But when it comes down to it. Smith has been "average" and that is inflated only by his century. Poor fielding positioning and bowling changes for the last few days.

Kohli has been exactly the same. But didnt have the one off innings too fall back on. And has kinda been losing the plot on field.

I dont have a problem if you feel my comment of "losing the plot" should be replaced with words like passionate... i actually cant come up with anything more than that in defense of him at the moment. But i watched him screaming out "F**K OFF!!!!!" After a wicket and it seemed beneath him to be acting like that. He is better than that.

Just my opinion, obviously i follow the other side and will read these things differently

Went and had a read of that post. And i don't disagree with it at all.

I think we are not quite the "sledging" team that we have been painted as based on past teams. Obviously we still do it. Cricket is a passionate game.

I just mean nowhere near to the same calibre we used too. I think we have been trying to shake that image for several years. But given our past... have a very long way to go before anyone changes their opinion

Aussies have performed very well, but to say they were expecting to be whitewashed so this performance is a bonus is such a loser's mentality.

One thing we all have admired Aussies is, they always look for wins and if that mentality is gone then they are no longer Aussies.

No Mumbai was much worse as a test wicket. The rain made it even worse in first innings.

The match barely last 2 full days.

Pune test too barely lasted 2 days.  It was  over by lunch 3rd day. I would say Pune pitch was as worse as Mumbai pitch.

That's because this lot of Batsmen were hopeless against spin unlike our greats who played that game.

How is this Australian team weak, Renshaw is a serious talent so is Peter Handscomb. Smith might be the best batsman since Bradman his stats back it up.Warner is dynamite, and bowling attack  especially spinners might be the best Australian have brought which includes Shane Warne. Warne never had good partner and he himself was never good in India. Hazelwood and Starc are very very good.

If they get rid of Mitchell Marsh which they are doing, this team has every base covered.

People who are suggesting this Indian team is weak against spin bowling , let me refresh the memories. Micheal Clarke ran thru so called great Indian batting line 6-12 in Mumbai 2004.So to suggest they were immune to collapses at home is ridiculous and they were great against all spin bowlers is also ridiculous.Great Shane Udal ran thru our legendary batting lineup in Mumbai 2006 so did Afridi in Bangalore in 2005. what about 70 all out .

This is a young Indian team who have shown great character and I will take Kohli as Indian captain over anyone in history of Indian cricket and this team under him will do fine even if they end up losing this series.

Opinions like mine as a spectator are not really the same as what the team thinks. They prepared well for this as is evident in their performance. I'm quite happy i was wrong in my opinion. I dont see it as a "bonus" i just wasn't expecting them to actually fight as hard as they have. If anyone had the loser mentality, it was me. Not the team.

That's a fair statement I guess. But arguably one can point out that the current team is not in as dominating a position as the teams that used to sledge a lot more - so there's that little inconvenient fact :).

Anyway, its a bit unfortunate that all this non-cricket stuff is taking up so much of the attention when we've got a quality test series going.  I for one, am really glad that the Aussies didn't just show up and get rolled over like last time - Lot more fun when its competitive.  And satisfying as well.  This Indian team has the potential to be a really good test unit - in all conditions - but they need to be pushed, and get better, before they can get there. The recent England series, and this Oz series are providing the right mix of competition and challenge for them to do so.  It's going to be very exciting time for Indian fans when we start touring the likes of SA, England etc next year.  Unfortunate that its not happening sooner.

It is not just preparation, they have serious talent too.Other than 2013 series, Aussies even though they lost they have always fought very hard and were so close to winning almost all the matches they lost.To me 2013 was anomaly and I put that debacle mainly on two men Clarke and Arthur.

Clarke might have been very good instinctive captain on the field but Ponting and Waugh were better leaders of men.

Aussie fighting spirit is the reason why Australian series gets top billing. This young Australian team even if they lose this series has  brighter future than Indian team as they have fast bowlers.

Yeah that is a fair point, and its kind of like a role reversal i suppose as far as the aus teams of the past and who we are now and who we are facing. So it is definitely an inconvenient yet true fact.

It has been an exceptional series. I haven't been this hooked on an entire series for a few years now. You get the odd interesting game in a series that captures your attention. But so far we have had two rather interesting games for different reasons. And i can't wait for game 3.

I highly rate you current team. You have some minor weaknesses. But all teams always do. Gonna be some good viewing for indian fans over the next few years at the least.

There has been a huge change in aus cricket over the past decade. Not just in individuals but in off field leaders and critical positions hindering progression and change. The current team has a decent amount of talent but too many untested "potential" players and too many "in form/why the hell are they in the team" players.

Things like the bbl have been great for showcasing up and coming talent because its actually allowing the to get games. The future of aussie cricket is mostly about guys who aren't even in the team yet more so than the guys who currently are.

Im aware that is also speculative, i mean that more in the sense that. 5 years ago. We barely had backup/replacement players for many spots in the team. Now if someone gets injured or is out of form 10 names can get put out there and debated as to why they could potentially fill the void.

I am happy with the path we are taking. But we are still a fair way away from getting back to where we want. And as an aussie. The only accepable place to aim for is #1. Its kind of in our blood

Can't understand this fatal attraction that Aussie selectors seem to have for Mitchell Marsh.  I understand the value of an allrounder - but he's been given an unnecessarily long rope in the hopes that he'll finally figure it out.  Very lucky for Australia that he's injured - I always thought that Maxwell or Agar in place of Marsh would have been Australia's best XI, even before the series started.  The 2 quicks you have are good enough to bowl the overs the team needs.  Test 3 can't come soon enough for the fans. Its going to be fun.

I do not think he is injured, he is being kicked but people who selected him including Lehman do not want to look bad so this statement.

Oh dont even get me started on marsh...

Im even from perth and have no idea why he is in there. I  actually think agar is the better option at the moment and definitely would have been this test imo. Maxwell knows these conditions aswell so also has a very valid argument for being selected.

I didn't have an issue with marsh IF HE WAS BOWLING! But ffs if you are not gonna bowl him then put in someone who can actually bat for the all rounder position. Or if you are not gonna bowl him... we could have definitely used another batsmen.

Ok i was getting started im gonna stop.

Fkn marsh....

Ok, Let's not get carried away now, shall we. This australian team is not as bad as everyone thought it would be, the aussie team should be appreciated for playing good cricket but no need to put down the Indian team, get out of your inferiority complex, this brown nosing loser mentality is pathetic.

I think we need to remember that a clean sweep is still a rarity and so for folks to 'expect' a 4-0 result was a bit over the top imho. Yes, India is the much stronger side on paper for these conditions based on recent form but in a rivalry series, all of that goes out the window since there are many intangibles in play. Aussies were always going to come hard at India and I'm glad that we have leveled the series after a few dismal batting displays.

I'm looking forward to enjoying the remaining two games and maintain my previous assertion. If we can subdue Warner and Smith then the aussies are just like Lyon's comment - 'if you cut off the snakes head then the body will fall away'. I was really disappointed with Karun Nair on his home track coming on the back of a recent triple ton. He needs to show up better in his opportunities otherwise the dreaded Rohit sharma might come back.

This is not inferiority complex , may be you have that complex that's why you see everything in that prism, it is a fact they have better fast bowlers and teams with better fast bowlers travel better.

Greatest teams from India have never won more than single test in SA,Aus, England and NZ. Australian team under Smith has already won more tests NZ in series than any other Indian team. They are yet to tour Eng and SA.

Honestly Aus team did extremely well the first test was a resounding beating. Bangalore is a come back from Behind as first innings was much the same here too. So Aus is the superior side here, India not as good as they were thought of start of the series, and are under dogs for the rest of the series. But if Aussies felt that they will get white washed here, then they are not the Aussies of the past and deserve to be wiped the floor with.
