Pujara now averages 50+ in Australia - intial step towards his improved overseas version

Recommended Posts

His game looks rock solid now. He is still playing those 100 balls 30 runs inning, but now he is more confident and clearer in approach. Moreover it seems he has found a way to move forward.

Twice he played similar inning and went on to score centuries with attacking batting with the tail.

He scored 37 runs in 129 balls - this he was doing earlier also, but then after that he used to get out leaving team nowhere in the match. He was rightly criticized for his failures. But this time he scored 86 runs in 117 balls after that. His last 55 runs came in just 40 balls which means he has found all gears required for test cricket.

the key for him is not getting out after intial phase. He always had that top gear but he could do only against spinners or at home.

Overall 5068 runs at avg of 50.68, he needs a good tour to NZ and Eng or SA.

For the first time in his career, Pujara is looking confident batting outside Asia.

That 130 odd in England, especially the acceleration while batting with the tail, seems to have injected a certain self belief in him.

It is not just the runs, but his attitude now, which is very pleasing to see.

I hope Pujara has a big big series in Australia this time.

Another good all-condition test batsman,  after Kohli,  is something Team India need desperately.

that county stint also seems to have helped to some extent, although it did not translate to "big" runs in Eng. However, I think the Oz pitches should be more conducive to Pujara's style of play.

In England this year he was almost as good as Kohli despite getting dropped from first game.

In last 2-3 innings he got unplayable balls from Anderson unlike mental midget Rahane who was an embarrassment all throughout the tour. Only those who check scorecards will compre Rahane with him.
