Forever Indian Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 As a player, now way he is overrated. A couple of bad series can be had by anybody but he has scored all around the world except England. After Smith he is the current best test player IMO followed by Root. As a captain, strategically he is average and still learning the trade. But his motivational and leadership skills are very good which will save his as* despite strategically being average. King Tendulkar 1

SRT100 Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 He has had a bad series. He still has an opportunity for redemption in this final test. Time to deliver Virat.
MCcricket Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Don't fall for the troll, second account for Viper as you see only him giving positives for every post

Beating some average teams at home doesn't mean anything.. we all know who is the real captain is in under 19s.. Did you just not say warner won 1st ipl as captain. So he did see success without failure Warner captained exceptionally good in last IPL. Probably like many you are prejudiced about Warner. Many regard Warner as an idiot and not very smart but that meant zilch if you actually see him captaining in last IPL.He utilised his bowlers perfectly. Its like even if Alia Bhat studies hard and wins quiz contest people would doubt about confidentiality of questions asked.
Austin 3:!6 Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Though I am a Dhoni fan, any fool will claim Kohli is overrated. He is already the biggest match winner EVER from Asia and if he retires tomorrow, he will go down as ATG and top 10 batsman to have ever played the game. The funniest part though, few GARBAGEDESHI fans are mocking his batting and captaincy. Kohli has won 17 test matches at a stretch and he becomes useless captain. Mashrafe is a great captain bcoz he has 7 surgeries @Minnowdeshis stay away from this thread. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk Forever Indian, Vilander, MCcricket and 1 other 4
sensible-indian Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 (edited) Any cricketer can be over-rated. Depends on how you view them. If you compare Kohli to Sachin & Lara the test bat, then of course he is over-rated. But if you look at what he is, he is not over-rated at all. His main criticism was lack of impact in Asia and he has solved that too (this series notwithstanding). He has to prove more against lateral movement (yes, he has scored in Joberg) but the signs are good (he has shown that he can score in tough conditions as we witnessed him bat against Amir in Bangladesh seamer, against WI in WC 2015 - that track spiced up big time, against SA in SA in 2010 - he can bat but he has to play longer innings). He does have a weakness outside off stump which he still gets out to (he has made technical adjustments post the Eng series now its more of an impulse weakness). That he has to sort. Overall, I think Kohli is more Laraesque than Tendu. Lara used to have incredible highs and super lows which is how Kohli seems to perform (Eng tour - super low, Aus tour - incredible high, Eng home tour - incredible high, Aus home tour - super low until now). The moment he faced a little bit of heat from aussies he lost all his composure and became a liability for the team. Beating crap teams at home means nothing South Africa was a crap team?

Saffers were severely displeased with the quality of almost all the wickets. pitches in this series too have been very similar. In that series, only Nagpur was really substandard.

Gollum Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Over rated doesn't mean he is bad. He is still a gun player but also over rated just like Andy Murray, Messi, Carlsen, Hamilton etc.
cric_fan Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 My word. I thought Pak fans were bad for slaying their team..Kohli overrated?? Absolute joke of a suggestion.
Vilander Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 As a batsman we tended to think he was better than Sachin, but he is not probably. As a captain he is fine if he controls his anger a bit. He is still a very good batsman

But these unbeaten streak of matches/serieses at home should be taken with a pinch of salt. Pak also had an impressive unbeaten record in UAE and hadn't lost a test series there God knows for how long. But we saw their real worth in Newzealand and Australia which is why I believe these streaks at home on tailored pitches means very little. Pakistan never really had a winning streak. They lost plenty of games at home - even losing a test to WI. They couldn't even beat NZ and SA at home for crying out loud. Pakistan were simply not losing whereas under Kohli, India has demolished all and sundry. A huge difference but I doubt you will understand. Edited March 23, 2017 by Ultimate_Game

Pak haven't lost a single test series in UAE in quite some time now. Yes, they lost quite a few test matches there, even lost to westindies, Drew serieses against kiwis, but haven't lost a single test series till now. It's also a type of streak. Such streaks are pretty common. India remained unbeaten at home for years in 90s and in 2000s. Since early 90s (last 25+ years) India have barely lost 3 series or thereabouts at home. if you can't differentiate between "unbeaten series at home" and "consecutive winning tests at home" it shows your cricketing ignorance.
