Why even bother with domestic cricket?

Isn't it a big red flag that we haven't found any new fresh talent in those 4 years? Generally you would expect at least a few changes over that period of time and somebody like Pant would've been perfect. We lack someone to take the game to the opposition at the top of the order. Pant could've been that "X" factor.

that team in itself was young. Only Dhoni you could say who was over 30 then.

I already mentioned the rationale for the same in another thread a few days back but here goes...

Yuvi is a middle order batsman past his sell by date and is a poor fielder to boot. There are replacements for him in the middle order.

Dhoni OTOH is a wkt keeper and a batsman who has done well in odis and there are no easy replacements for him. Pant is the closest I can think of and in T20 it would be easy to replace him with Pant. But in a odi you can't replace him with Pant at the moment. i would rather play Pant as an opener and over time get him to keep wkts as well so that by the time WC 2019 rolls in he's fully entrenched as a wkt keeper batsman. Plus based on what we've seen of Kohli's captaincy this IPL and against England in shorter formats, he will need to rely on Dhoni for captaincy.

so who do you want to be replaced then if not Dhoni? Dhawan is a damn good ODI bat, Rohit is a damn good ODI opener. Rahane wont play unless someone is injured. jadhav did well in his last series. Yuvi also did well in his last series. He would not have been picked if he had failed.

This. Pant and Pandey should've played every match during the Ind-Eng series but they took the easy way out and played the "safe" squad and now we are left with no option but to go with the tried and tested folks which will most likely come back without doing much.

Pant has only played 1 FC season(perhaps not even that during England series), so selectors probably didnt want to rush him. Yuvraj and Dhoni both scored 150 and 135 in 2nd ODI against England, so they retained them. They are still very good in ODI format IMO but probably no longer the force they once used to be.

Samson, Hooda, Nair were not doing well in List A.

Kedhar Jadhav and Hardik were given chances and did well and hence got picked for CT.

Only doubtful selection is Rahane but with KL Rahul injured, they had to pick him as a backup opener.

It's not simply a case of being young. If you haven't made any changes at all over the last 4 years that means you have regressed and the team has stagnated. I can understand if the team was winning the way Aussies of early 2000s were but they haven't won anything over the last 4 years which shows they need to get better and maintaining status quo is not the way to do it.

Pant may have played only one season but he has looked like someone you want to bring into the squad and back immediately. He's an exception sort of guy and IMO should've been picked for CT. Plus I don't think Rahane was picked to replace KL Rahul. IMO Rahane would've been selected no matter what and Pandey or Dhawan would've been left out.

I doubt that because KL Rahul played the first 2 ODIs against England and then got injured and replaced by Rahane in 3rd ODI. When he comes back, I think selectors will prefer Rahul over Rahane. If Rahul plays his natural game which is quite aggressive, he may do well but if he bats like Rahane or Rayudu, it wont work.

Rahul played all 3 ODIs against England.

It was Dhawan who was dropped for Rahane in 3rd odi

Before Selection: Don't give a chance to dhoni's replacement because he is a rookie. We don't want to put pressure on him.

Durring Selection: There is no replacement for dhoni .(Because apparently nobody is allowed). :cantstop:

After Selection: Dhoni is still the best wicketkeeper batsman available.Else why is he being selected. :cantstop:

Repeat..

One thing you cannot blame Dhoni for anymore , selection !!

ICC tournaments are the tour where you would experiment. Here only tried and tested players can be chosen. It was the flaw in schedule of India that not many ODIs were played before ICC CT. Hence planning was not perfect. But based on the result, I suppose the planning for WC 2019 will start from now as grooming for young players will take at least 2 yrs and I'm sure Yuvi etc won't last for 2 years. In that case India needs to earmark one young player for each spot before hand and give them international exposure and then choose the best squad for the climax.

But I agree that India won't win this CT.

Yeah that's right. But still think selectors will prefer Rahul over Rahane if it comes to that.

This argument that Rahane will do very well in ODI where there is swing /seam movement .  Its a myth .

Please look at his record from matches where pitch assisted help to bowler.

It is horrible .

Mind you i am talking about ODI performance here . Not tests

Rahane is shyte in shorter formats irrespective of the conditions. Period.

I would have liked to try iyer at no4

Other than rishab pant as an alternative for kedar jadhav I don't have any complaints with the team

Rohit Shikar

Kohli iyer kedar

Dhoni

Jadeja Hardik

Shami bhuvi bumrah

Is my team

Yuvraj is a complete waste... He is depressed. Even sachin had lean patches. But even during his worst period during chapel era when he was struggling, his body language was positive like he wanted to score some runs. Yuvi looks so depressed as if he is hanging around with the team for drinks company after the game is over. Really hope he proves me wrong and btw can he bowl now?

Absolutely insulting to say this about a top player .

The guy scored a 100 last series

He is hanging around the team for drinks company like really......really

Ofcourse he can bowl but hasnt been bowling much so wnt have control. Didnt he get maxwell oute quite a few times last yr in t20 season .

Yes we all know he is not even a shadow of his past but saying this insult full . He is a confidence player and when runs dnt flow some player dnt feel the same way. Same happens even with harabhajan to. Some players are like that ......

He's not a confidence player but a finished one. Its frankly embarrassing and an insult to the younger players - who on merit should have been picked - that the selectors are still plumping for Yuvraj Singh in 2017.

May be he is finished .........but doesnt mean someone will say he hangs out for a drink with the team.

The guy is trying his best atleast, his fitness is way better then his other contemporaries like bhajji, irfan who can just give interviews of coming back but doesnt work hard for it

Not really no. I'm all for giving Pant a chance but as a batsman and eventually to take over from Dhoni. Pant is way too valuable a player to be thrown at the deep end in odis. In T20Is he should replace Dhoni.

You just want dhoni to hang around in ODIs. All this Pant is too valuable a player to be thrown in deep seas and oh he must play as a batsman are concerns for Dhoni and not Pant. Pant is not a makeshift keeper that both keeping and batting would be added responsibility. He is a specialist keeper and he has been doing both jobs till now. Its pretty clear why you have no problems for him as a batsman in the team but do not want him to keep.Being dhoni fan you cannot hide this. You know pretty well that if Pant is given both the jobs and he does a good job its curtain closed for dhoni. On the contrary if he plays as a batsman only and eventually takes over when dhoni feels like quitting having screwed many matches for us, you can gloat about how dhoni groomed Pant as a keeper just like you guys were doing for Smith with that guidance bullsheet.

Honest question:  You are OK to throw Pant into the sea as a batsman but not as a keeper batsman? Lmao. :hysterical:
