Looking at the India vs. NZ match yesterday and SA vs. England match today

IF   we have a seamer-friendly track which is expected to produce a low-scoring game

then  we may play

Shami

Bumrah,

Bhuvi

Umesh

Jadeja

ONLY  against Pakistan as they are really weak against good quality fast bowling and swing bowling

On such a track, Pandya has little chance of contributing with the bat and Ashwin has little chance of contributing with the ball and there is not much point in taking them.

Morning: Precipitation 55% Cloud cover 60%

Afternoon: Precipitation 55% Cloud cover 70%

Night: Precipitation 25% Cloud cover 88%

The chance for rain and cloud cover means we only need 1 spinner at most, especially if Jadhav and/or Yuvi play, they can fill any quota of spin required. Kumar will take 5 padosi wickets himself  , if we have that predicted cloud cover, but we will have to watch out for Amir. :afraid:

It's probably better to bat 2nd, if there is a curtailed game, as D/L will favor us chasing.

Ashwin why???? Ashwin is big No vs Pakistan considering the fact that they are very good players of off spin, we should go all out four pronged pace attack which they struggles.

I sort of agree. I am being conservative in case if pace does not work that day. No compelling reason just going by gut.

IMO it comes down to whether you want to chase 320 with Pandya or chase 280 without Pandya. I would go with the latter but yeah against Pakistan we can go with Pandya and against Saffers we can get Ashwin in the team.

You will have to chase 320 without or without Pandya. Someone will eventually go for runs. This is LOI cricket these days.

If pitch is not dud, We wont need 4 pacers. 3 with a spinners will do enough damage to get rid of top 5-6 batsmen by first 30 overs.

If Pitch is dud, In all likely hood, 4 pacers wont be any good. And most likely score will be around 180/2 in first 30 overs

Only case where above combo will work is when pitch is more balanced. However it is highly unlikely to see a balanced pitch. More likely we will have dud pitch

I hope people can see the value of Hardik Pandya, the batsman, after today's innings...80 not out off only 54 balls.

He has shown that he has the ability to build an innings while scoring at a fast clip and hitting the big shots.

He will be invaluable on flat and flattish tracks and walks into the team for me.

The only place I may think about dropping him is on very seamer-friendly tracks where a low score is expected,  where a front-line fast bowler maybe more handy.

5) if we take Pandya, then we got ourselves another hitter. he is not exactly ben stokes or Corey Anderson with the bat.. you can expect a 35(20) blitz from him, but you cannot expect a prolonged assault of 80(55) from hardik. but our bowling will be too weak. he hasn't bowled consistently in the IPL and the opposition will target him. Don't be surprised if he returns 10-0-80-0 kind of figures. and to add to our misery yuvi isn't in bowling form. All our batsmen are 1-dimensional. None of them bowl. Even Rohit Sharma can manage 3-4 overs at max. we will leak runs in the middle overs.

Well, well, well..... :phehe:
