From june 19, seven fast bowlers — Siraj, Thampi, Navdeep Singh, Nathu Singh, Aniket Chaudhary, Siddharth Kaul and Ankit Rajpoot — will be going to a two-week training camp organized by the senior selection committee.

So this bowlers may not be selected for the Windies series.

India are likely to send a second-string side for the five-match ODI series against West Indies that begins on June 23.

It has been reliably learned that in case Kohli is rested, Ajinkya Rahane might take over. Rahane is part of the Champions Trophy squad as a back-up opener, and it would be interesting to see if the selectors name Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan in the squad for West Indies. MS Dhoni is almost certain, and indications are such that a few bowlers might also be rested.

Rahane :wall:

Why waste the spot? Make Rohit as captain.

Unlikely that he will be playing.  Rahane and KLR will likely open.

I say go with bench warmers and fringe players. My squad would be...

KL Rahul

Rishab Pant (wkt keeper and opener)

Suresh Raina

Manish Pandey

Kedar Jadhav (hasn't played enough IMO)

Shreyas Iyer

Sanju Samson (backup wkt keeper)

Hridik Pandya (needs more exposure)

Krunal Pandya

Yuzi Chahal

Kuldeep Yadav

Axar Patel

Sandeep Sharma

Shardul Thakur

Nathu Singh

Pradeep Sangwan

Jaydev Unadkat (for T20s to see if his slower ones work at intl level)

Rishabh Pant  / Sanj Samson

Manish Pandey

Kedar Jadhav

Hardik Pandya

Krunal Pandya  / Axar Patel

Vijay Shankar

Kuldeep Yadav

Y Chahal

Basil Thampi

Nathu Singh

Squad:  Samson, Axar, Shreyas Iyer, Pradeep Sangwan, Unadkat?

Problem is, BCCI will probably send Rahane as Captain that will push out samson/iyer out of the XI/Squad.   And probably select a couple of older players who have very good domestic numbers as a reward for their performance.

Sandeep needs to be there in place of Thampi. Thampi is way too raw for India cap. Sandeep comfortably out-performed him and has been the most consistent performer over the last few years. He deserves a shot to prove whether he belongs at the higher level or not.

Sandeep's style of bowling won't get too much purchase in the Windies - those wickets are crap.  Although they did relay the Guyana track and its now a proper road.  But even that will not suit Sandeep Sharma's bowling.  His pace and the dhoos tracks of the windies, will allow the Sean Paul wannabes to hack him all over the park.  I'd rather give the opportunity to a Basil/Nathu and see what they are made of.   Sangwan and Unadkat are left-armers, and I want to see a decent left-arm paceman added to the options-kit for Skipper VK.

What about the rest of the squad?
