sage Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 I can't handle the betting section alone. Someone needs to accompany me and create bets when I'm not creating them. Appoint some active members for this please :icflove: I volunteer to join you, friend. Together we can edify the fiscal policies of $ICF

King Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 The upgrade of ICF has taken toils in the past few days/weeks. Many trial upgrades, reading up what's the best forums software to go for and eventually deciding to go with VBulletin and the hard mile took an absolute toll. The end result as of now is not very pretty I concede but at least we are back up and running. This gave me sleepless nights and many days of toil. The first upgrade to Vbulletin from bug ridden 3.6 we were at was not that hard. Still it took fair bit of time to move the database over and start fresh. Had to forgo the old files and no wonder you guys can't see your signature, avatar and other graphics files. The older software had far too many holes and needed to be plugged. Once I made the decision to move on from the older version and signed up for the new version I took a guarded approach to upgrade to 4.2 which was quite a breeze. I should have left it at that as it was the most stable release and had CMS as well. I thought why not when upgrading, upgrade to the latest possible version. There in lies the issue. The latest version of VBulletin is scarcely used and is not vouched by many. Once I started the upgrade I figured why. Mistake number 1: Not making a clean backup of the database Mistake number 2: Should have reviewed the product much more Mistake number 3: Having lost touch with these forums software ages ago I can carry on pointing out my mistakes prior upgrade but I'll stop now. The Blog module may break To cut the story short the upgrade process stuffed up so bad and my effort to get in touch with the support staff fell in deaf ears. The VBulletin support staff are terrible. If I were the CEO of VBulletin I would wind up the company, get rid of all the staff and probably start something fresh. Barely any help came from them and by trial/error I somehow upgraded the database. The learning curve with the latest software is steep and this is the best I have been able to do so far. I know this may not be the end result we may be expecting out of upgrade but just at the verge of a great India South Africa series about to start and not having ICF up and running will be a down pour. While the website was down blokes from over 8-10 years that were founders of this website got in touch. I had thought they had moved on long time ago... looks like they are still active and kudos to the members that have kept the old timers still around. In the coming days we will put in our best efforts to better this website and there are going to be difficulties but we will get there in the end. BlueBee, adi B, sourab10forever and 1 other 4
fineleg Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Ravi, Thanks for the post. We appreciate your hard work. One suggestion - can we have an active (during downtime) Facebook page or Twitter for ICF (its there but inactive? https://www.facebook.com/ICFans https://twitter.com/ICFans ) - where when the website is down, a Mod or Admin can post once-a-week status update on what's going on. That way, members can read that when main website is down. Another - yes if 4.2 is the stable version, in hindsight its good to have to have left it there. Software upgrades can be a pain, and good idea not to aim for the latest-and-greatest version number :) Thanks for all the help Ravi and team. panesarv 1
