I guess the new spinners aren't as good with the bat as Ashwin and Jadeja He may be the 3rd seamer, but he's the 5th bowling option and doesn't even bowl his full quota 95% of the time. Ash and Jaddu aren't that great with the bat in ODIs anyway. There's quite a few options that are available to the selectors - Krunal Pandya, Washington Sundar. But Axar Patel is the more experienced option in terms of spinner who can bat a bit. You have to stop thinking of Pandya as a bowling-first player. And his bowling is still improving. During the T20 world cup, he had almost zero variations. In the last few ODIs, we have seen him bowl the kunckle-ball, the slower yorker, and some grippy cutters as well. When you add variations, its not always linear progress - you will occasionally go for a few runs. Let him keep experimenting for now. He'll be all right. The bigger concern for him is fitness. Given his unique skill-set he's an automatic pick for 100% of white ball cricket, and a worthy option for tests as well. It remains to be seen if he can handle the bowling work-loads of test cricket. Or even just breakdown due to the general workload across formats.

You can consider Pandya as 5th bowler rather than third seamer. in odis 5th bowler has to bowl ten overs, how many overseas odis has Pandya bowled 10 overs.Do you think his batting is can't miss aspect for the team that they are willing to risk him.Pandya plus another batsman should be ideally combining to bowl ten overs for 50 -60 runs.In india him and Jadhav can do it but I doubt it can be done overseas.
mancalledsting Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 he needs time for his bowling to develop whilst reminding him that he must give it equal priority- he has become burnt out recently playing all 3 formats- the only problem is that he is still a work in progress (bowling wise and batting against pace)- but who isn't only 12 months into the team. he has all the tools to come good by the next WC
putrevus Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 (edited) I would ask him to just play tests against SL and then go back to FC and keep bowling, he won't get better unless he bowls more and FC is where he needs to learn to bowl 20 overs a day.If he can bowl 15-18 overs and pick up odd wicket while keeping it tight he would be huge blessing for this team. SecondSlip Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 Been saying this for a while as well, Hardik is not a 10 overs bowler. We need a 6th bowling option that can combine with Hardik to make up the 5th bowler’s quota. I think Krunal is the best option for this and I hope that he plays in the upcoming series against Sri Lanka. For the series in South Africa, I would like to see a bowling attack like this: Krunal Hardik Bhuvi Shami Bumrah Chahal This gives us 3 proper pace bowlers with Hardik as the 4th choice. No way can Hardik play as a third seamer against SA, it’s a massive risk.

He was never a bowling alrounder. I have more trust in his batting than Karthik, Jadhav, manish combined. Now that is bit too much, you are making him sound like Viv. His game is still questionable against Quicks. After South Africa series, it will become clear where he stands.

He is a impact batsmen with great athletic ability. He can bowl a bit, also could lead India in the future. Kapil as bowler was not only someone who could bowl 10 overs, but he was our best bowler. Hardik has to improve a lot to get is level at the moment.

You dont need to be a Viv Richards to be better than Karthik, Jadhav, Pandey.

cowboysfan Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 He hasn't developed any skill with his stint so far, nothing but a buffet bowler.
