I think deep inside everyone set some milestons in batting. I personally think after 2003 world cup, he started looking at the game differently. He really wanted that world cup and by the the time 2003 came he knew other great players had lot to show in terms of world cup and he did not have any. Then 2007 happened and it made things worse. I think his game was still good around that time, but he wasn’t the player he used to be before. He was still scoring runs, bur I really felt he was underachiever for someone who played a massive 200 tests and in the era especialy when declarations were almost always delayed by captains. He could have easily racked up few extra double hundreds. It was the test match where Dravid was captain and he declared the innings against Pakistan when Sachin was batting on 194* - he had sent a clear message out from the dressing room, about 5 overs ago, that the plan was to declare ASAP. Tendy clearly wanted to bat on for his 200, but at the same time, wanted to bat risk free and stay not out as well. He was batting with a sense of urgency, but not going after every ball, it was obvious that he wanted to ensure that he doesn't get out. Dravid wanted to make sure that the situation didn't cost the opportunity to grab a wicket or 2, and that we had enough time to take a proper crack at the Pakistani batsmen before stumps.

Yes, that moment has been discussed every 2nd year on ICF and I bet if I bump any of the old threads, it will go further 10 pages as it was such an emotional moment for many on ICF and for some on ICF it just the right moment what SRT needed in his career. Dravid was right that time, Dravid and John I mean.

Seeing a different perspective for once is nice. Rather his intentions of posting are trolling or serious it should not matter to anybody. Bhai, I don't mind differing opinions. But when he butts in to every damn thread repeating the same rhetoric 10 times it gets irritating. sandeep 1

Because he do not wants to play any other than England and Australia. 17 times he passed 150 runs scoes in 80 innings was really amazing. There were restriction during the time he played cricket. Also career of a lot of cricketers of that era was disturbed due to World War 2. Sir Don himself had joined the army. Another Aussie cricketer to join the army was the great Aussie all rounder Kieth Miller. During those times players had to travel by ship for weeks. Now two tests in far away locations can start within 3 days. Edited December 3, 2017 by Straight Drive
