Stuge Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 I feel Sri lankans are giving right kind of dose to this nonsense .
New guy Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 Kohli is an aggressive captain in tests. No doubt
sandeep Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 Aggressively dropping catches. SL should have been 5 or 6 down at this stage. Jimmy Cliff, Gollum and Sachinism 2 1

No doubt lol you know how reactive that declaration was ? that makes him emotional , not aggressive . 2 early wickets trailing 500 odd runs a batsmen hits 3 boundaries and Virat immediately puts a fielder in outfield to save runs ? sandeep 1

Putting fielder on boundary is more to save the bowler, but you are right declaration was an emotional one. Emotional aggression can take you only so far.It will never win you matches.-
rtmohanlal Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 sense less declaration ....Should have batted a lot more overs and should have only given SL some 25 overs at best.

The Srilankans were acting at oscar level. They took it to extreme and I feel it was best they declared, it would have been great declaration if the catches were held. And its not even the first time we've seen that. I have a lot of love for Virat, his competitive fire, his lead-from-the-front style, his path-breaking commitment to playing 5 bowlers - but he plays 'chase the ball' way too often as a Captain on the field. Our improved bowlers deserve better tactical leadership from him, along with better catching. If Kohli is man enough to defer to Dhoni for decisions at crunch time in LOIs, he should be man enough to vacate the 2nd slip spot to Rahane. He is a better fielder at Cover anyway. Pujara, Rahane and Ashwin should be the slip cordon. If Ash is not playing, maybe stick Vijay in there, or maybe VK can be 3rd slip. This is an obvious decision crying out to be made, at this point. ravishingravi Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 Seems impulsive and emotional in his thought process which is not a good sign. Yes, by Indian standards, good declaration. If at 530, we are not secured against this SL side, I don’t know when it will be.

Am completely ok with what he did today , SL's where very annoying ..but just that I wudnt call that aggressive .
surajmal Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 If they could catch at all, we would already be watching luungans' second innings.

Hes competitive and he plays to win , but I really dont seeing him taking risks which may cost the match . My worry is having seen him captain for RCB as well , he never has a plan B fortunately hes not needed one cos so far but for how long ? . in SA if we get relatively flat pitches we are in serious trouble imo . This is largely true. I don’t see him as an aggressive captain. Some folks confuse aggressive personality with aggressive captaincy. Sometimes Virat also does the same. Michael Vaughan for instance was a calm ruthless captain. Kohli is tactically defensive and not very innovative. This was also clear when he chose to bat second in High pressure CT finals. Root did the same in ongoing test. Shastri will have to pull the strings for India to play tactically flexible aggressive game. Rahane infact demonstrated greater attributes for a captain in the last test against Australia. One good quality of Kohli is his backing of fast bowlers. Edited December 3, 2017 by ravishingravi
putrevus Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 What attributes has Rahane showed which were better than Kohli. What Kohli did on second day of Bangalore test after getting bowled out on first day was captaincy of highest class.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
putrevus Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 Tactical skill is very overrated, Brendan Mccullum was hailed has great tactical captain but he single handedly lost Lords test by unnecessary aggression.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Vilander Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 Yada yada. They did not hold the catches. Bad declaration and bad fielding. But we will still win it..lol if sl play

Not going for in out field for a new batsman, a bad habit we have got into since last 10 years. Backing Jadhav but not exposing him too much in that test. Short spells in that first innings. I also liked his composure given that it was a decider test match with his best batsman out. Kohli seems like an emotionally volatile guy when it comes to his decision here and his body language or his overdrawn confrontation with Steve Smith last series which affected his perfomance. That emotion might work in his batting but not sure about his captaincy. Opposition team and media can get under his skin.

I don't think Kohli was affected by anything, he just got few good balls and was bit unlucky on other occasions.I will take Kohli over any other Indian captain in history. He leads by example and his captaincy is inspirational. He is the best thing which has happened to Indian test team.
