Its all good to spout high-faluting cliches like "all 4 bowlers should be wicket taking ones" - but the reality boils down to deciding on one of our 2 spinners - and recognizing that they may not be as effective as they are at home.  And in that realistic scenario, which one is more valuable and effective in executing plan B  i.e. giving you a bunch of tight overs, so that the other bowlers in the team can operate at maximum effectiveness.

Though I would say both Jaddu & Ash give no confidence of delivering overseas

I don't think south africa will give us flat pitches. Most probably its going to be completely seamer friendly one especially the first test. That means draw is out of equation. In that case by playing with 3 wicket taking bowlers we are already accepting loss even before the match starts. No way we can expect ashwin/jadeja to pick wickets in the first 4 days of a green wicket.

Considering that Ashwin is a home bully (see stats), it might actually be a good idea..unless SA produce dust bowls & rank turners..which is highly unlikely.

Ashwin outbowled Yasir Shah in Lanka, Australia, WI and Bangladesh. Also a better average in England than Yasir .

Fair point that it shouldn't matter.  But the reflexive defensiveness isn't happening in a vacuum.   "you guys" love exaggerating or the foibles of Indian players to the extent of making them up where they don't exist.   Its not good to play the "you guys" game though.  I'm actually starting to like your posts on ICF!
