As a package(wk+batsman+captain) its almost impossible to find someone like him. True MVP candidate. Kohli, Sachin, Yuvi, Ganguly, Dravid, Azhar, Sehwag, Rohit, Shikhar, Gauti, etc all will have fair competition to book their spot in the XI. And we will keep on churning lot of good batsman in future as well. Well Kohli will be 1st or 2nd name too ,he is not competing with likes of Dravid/Azhar/yuvi lol

But I still feel, we never had deficiency in batting talent in our team. Our system keep on producing great batsman since long time. However, WK-batsman-captain package so good was never seen. Hopefully, we get one more soon like Dhoni to take it forward post WC. Edited December 10, 2017 by Shunya SK_IH 1
putrevus Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 Those who are citing Kohli not able to perform in finals, didn't Dhoni play in those finals what great performances has he given in them. One final in which Dhoni performed Kohli played an important role there and other Major finals Kohli was the highest scorer.

Don't give me these nonsensical averages, other than his flukey 91 no, what the heck has Dhoni done.Dhoni can't touch Kohli in any of the batting front I don't care what Dhoni has done in past or will do in future he is not even in the same ball park as Kohli the batsman. Kohli is Dhoni plus Sachin combined, he is one guy who has made this ODI team remain relevant. Jimmy Cliff and King Tendulkar 1 1
jusarrived Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 Massive MSD fan here , but will pick Virat ..he can do everything MSD can do and more .

Sachin + Dhoni combined. Let him score a fifty in any final first. Jimmy Cliff 1

worldpositive1 Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 Bihari has no century outside asia, he is only good for sri lanka, pakistan and bangladesh. Virat is the real king.

Oh yeah, as batsman Kohli is head and shoulders above everyone else in ODIs, even Sachin. But India has always produced great batsmen and I am sure we will be producing a lot more in future too. But Dhoni as a package brought plenty of things in the team which missed it for years, its hard to replicate that. Edited December 10, 2017 by Shunya Jimmy Cliff 1

We can easily find alternative for Kohli which will be good enough to win odis. Its also possible to get alternative to MSD who is as good or may be slightly better than him with bat, But same guy to have Dhoniconda brain and lead the side. Its next to impossible. India will never produce another Dhoni. Another Kohli. I am certain there is one in touching distance in domestic circle even now. It just that Kohli isnt letting selectors look at it. A batsmen who can average 50+ in all three formats is in touching distance ? There may be a few things Virat has still to achieve , but lets not forget hes still got may be another 8-10 years for cricket left in him and hes already close to a complete package .

Kohli in my book failed in one major finals which Dhoni also played and failed. CT 13 it was due Kohli's knock India wound up winning the match. 2011 Kohli played pivotal role in arresting the slide and gave the team momentum back.

Scoring in final isn't great, but being only player not to score 50 in history is certainly big question mark.
putrevus Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 Let me get this straight ,Kohli who single handedly took India to one T20 finals and even scored fifty in that finals where Dhoni flops big time both as a captain and batsman. Second takes a useless team again to semis of second t20 world cup where he top scores with 90 odd where Dhoni the captain/player again let him down again as usual. This Kohli all of sudden suffers from nerves just because it is 50 over finals never mind a small fact that this guy has scored 32 odi hundreds.People have weird imaginations. Mosher and Laaloo 2

It certainly doesn't raise anything , it is just a statistical anomaly which Kohli will fix in coming years.
