His body is used to the action, and he hardly gets injured playing Ranji back to back. Bumrah is also a seam and swing bowler so should be effective with new ball. The issue with Shami is he doesn't seem too focussed right from SA tour. Also in England playing only 2 front line Pacers is a big risk. Hardik is good enough only for few overs.

I agree with all of the above except Gurbani. He needs to come thru A tours. I think what Dravid suggested that A tour should be the stepping stone to the Test team is a good idea. Domestic stats are a very weak analytics to go by.

It's a 5 match series so we've got to rotate the bowlers according to condition ,fitness and fatigue .

Bhuvi is a first pick ,rest circulate between umesh,shami,ishant,bumrah and pandya of course is the fifth bowler .

I'd go with bhuvi ,umesh,bumrah in the first test ,bumrah is not reliable with the new ball at present.

Ashwin is the lone spinner but he's gotta perform

Ashwin will be mostly a support bowler. But I think in Tests he can slip in his leg break in between his off break.

Hope workloads are managed and Bhuvi is not trundling at 70mph towards the back end of the tour again because we have bowled him into the ground.

We all know why that happened. After India took the lead in the series came up with the brilliant idea of drawing the remaining tests and loading the side with batsmen. We still have the commentary archive of that series.

In tests that won't work. You'd think test batsmen can pick the variation from hand. For an off-spinner, the variation is usually the arm ball. If you want a wrist spinner, there is always Kuldeep. If at all anyone can replace Ashwin it must be kuldeep. Tough decisions need to made but that all depends on Kohli who has the knack of backing the Sharmas. Not expecting much to be honest

Which is why I am in favour of playing 4 fast bowlers.

 

We bowled fiercely in the Joburg test when we had 4 frontline pacers and everyone was fresh and raring to go.

Kohli's team selections are always questionable. So i will keep my fingers crossed.

its not bad in test specially when he chooses bowlers for conditons

his problems comes with his love for flair in batting which leads to selection of dhawan n rohit..........neways rohit has done half the job now

It is very important to make the new ball count in England. Need an out and out swing bowler to partner Bhuvi for that.

Not convinced with Ishant Shami or Bumrah for that role.

I wouldn't even pick Ashwin unless it's a dry surface, just roll with 4 fast bowlers and the " all rounder".

In IPL , you bowl only for four overs and its easy to keep the intensity and pace whereas in Tests , you have to bolw whole day. Look at how Pakistani T20 superstars are trundling now. I would watch out the performances of Saini and Gurbani in the A team and would like to include them also in the mix.

Umesh has bowled upto 150k in tests so has Shami, there are completed innings for both of them and Bumrah/Ishant/Aaron for India averaging 140+ and peaking at around 145. There is a list of all matches and speeds anthologized by poster Express bowling in speed thread, you should search for it.

I am talking about current Umesh.He hit 150 kph few years back in Australia and have not hit those speeds in recent past.People slow down as they age.

As people have pointed out here earlier, Thakur loses steam in longer formats.I remember seeing the same with most of our bowlers back in our disastrous 2011 tour.

Nope it's all the way till his last test find the post it will change your perception.

Lol. His last test was against SL and I am pretty sure he didnt even hit 90 mph in that.
